In the first of what will hopefully be a series of new style audio podcasts in 'magazine' format and (eventually) with special guest slots, Rafe, Ewan and I all contribute to AAS podcast 23, covering Mobipocket Reader, choosing between current S60 favourites and the Sony Ericsson P1i.
In the final part of our initial E90 coverage Steve looks at the Nokia E90's GPS and navigation capabilities. The navigation features are good, but there is room for improvement too. Steve also rounds up a few software odds and ends before summarising his summary(!) of the new Communicator.
Guest writer Asri al-Baker is a huge fan of LCG's X-plore file manager for UIQ 3 smartphones such as the Sony Ericsson P990i. Disregarding the non-standard interface and a few small niggles, he's been using the review format to show off what X-plore can do.
Ewan reviews the Merriam-Webster range of Dictionaries for Symbian OS smartphones, trying them out in detail on the Nokia E61i. See the review for links to UIQ versions. Summary? Slickly programmed and competent, they do what they say on the tin.
Attila's been busy this week. Leaping on to the first S60 3rd Edition profile manager like a cat upon a mouse, here he puts Best Profiles under the microscope. And yes, yes, there's now a competitor. Err.... Attila, don't go just yet, I've got another for you to look at...
We don't normally 'do' Sudoku games on AAS - there are just too many - but our own Attila turns out to be something of a Sudoku connoisseur. He's researched the ultimate, the very best Sudoku implementation for all Symbian OS smartphones - and brings us his review of Sensible Sudoku 2.
Want another free alternative to Nokia's free Smart2go? Although available unofficially for much of the world for a while now, it seems that Google has made support for Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom official for its Google Maps for Mobile Java app. If you've got a meaty data tariff or Wi-Fi, it features mapping, routing, satellite images and a business directory. And traffic info, though this wouldn't work for me. See also their YouTube slideshow.
Krisse gets to grips with Lost In The Pyramid and finds a game in which corners have been cut at every opportunity and in which much of the gameplay seems, well, random... Here's the review of the S60 3rd Edition version, but it's also available for UIQ 3.
Well done to the E-series blog for trying out RoadSync and giving it a detailed write-up. In view of negative comments about Mail4Exchange, it's good to see a very fully featured alternative for users of Microsoft Exchange and fans of push email.
