British Spring: N95 Photos and Videos [updated]

N95 close-upsSteve and Rafe have been taking advantage of a little early British spring semi-sunshine to capture some photos and videos with the N95. Google "designing a mobile phone"

Technology website The Register reports that Google has confirmed it is designing a mobile phone. El Reg speculates that their motive is to do with potentially large advertising revenues from mobile advertising. Google themselves say it is to get a foothold in developing countries (where mobiles are now the commonest form of connected computing). The Register reports it will use Java-based applications and have a Sidekick-style form factor. They also note that Google has been recruiting engineers from mobile companies including Symbian.

The premiere S60 event of the weekend?(!)

In roughly four hours time, around 11pm GMT Thursday, the creme de la creme of the S60 world will be gathering in the Nokia Store, New York, for talks, demos, previews and more.... Rafe and I couldn't make it (though Ewan's at least on the right continent), but Darla and other AAS stawarts will be there, reporting back with Flickr photos and a YouTube channel, so we can all share something of what goes down...

PC Suite 6.82

There's a new version of Nokia's PC Suite on the streets (thanks Darla). PC Suite v6.82 includes more network operator support, bug fixes, an improved Nokia Music Manager and Nokia Software Updater integration.

Nokia Enterprise's Frost award

Helping prove that their business ambitions at least are getting somewhere in the USA, Nokia's Enterprise Solutions group has received the 2007 Frost and Sullivan North American Mobility Award for Mobile Device Management. The press release follows.

Nokia expanding onto the Desktop PC?

Nokia's Maemo user interface (which runs on the Linux operating system) was designed for their pocket-sized internet tablets, the Nokia 770 and N800. However, the latest version of the UI for upcoming tablets "will be also runnable on desktop Linux", according to one of Nokia's Maemo team. You can see some photos of Maemo in action on an apparently standard Linux PC here and here. This is how it looks on the N800.

My Opera now accessible from Opera Mini

My Opera, one of the first proto-blogging systems, has now been extended to work well with both Opera Mini and Opera Mobile, enabling text and photo blogging directly from your mobile browser. Extra support includes chat groups and widget management. Opera's press release is below.
