S60 Web version 2 to become available for existing devices
Published by Steve Litchfield at 18:50 UTC, March 21st 2007
Interesting to see a S60 insider telling blogger Jonathan Greene that the requests for version 2 of the S60 Safari-based Web browser have been heard and that it will be made available separately from Feature Pack 1 - i.e. that it'll be an SISx file that can be loaded onto existing S60 3rd Edition smartphones.
"I’m looking forward to the browser release which should arrive within the next 1 month. Apparently, the user voices have been heard and the browser will be pulled out from the FP updates so we’ll all be able to take advantage of the progress that’s been made without having to drop some serious dough on a new phone — just to take advantage of the browser…"

Will this version 2 of the S60 browser finally let the user select and copy text from any web page? That's the one improvement I personally, and many others with me, care about the most.

Finally! Now, if we could only get the promised v3 firmware for the E70...

It's welcome news. But there's still the problem of what to do with the WAP browser. It's seemingly hardwired into the email app (and probably other places as well) to use the WAP when clicking on links in an email. It's such a PITA because you can't copy the link to manually paste into WEB.

I do this all the time on my E61 & Opera Mobile. Open email, highlight the link, ctrl+c to copy, switch to Opera, Open url..., ctrl+v to paste. Can't this be done on Nokia's Web?!

OK, I just found out the same can be done on the E70, ie use ctrl-c, ctrl-v. But that involves opening up the keyboard (and the hassle that entails). For machines other than E61 and E70 which don't have a keyboard they're stuffed. Why isn't the pencil + Copy/Paste functionality available.

Copy - paste can be done by holding edit button (that with pencil on it) and application buttons (below display)
