Blaze, one of the leading mobile game publishers, has announced a high profile sequel to Lock 'n' Load, it's first person shoot-em-up. Lock ‘n Load 2 for S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3 (as well as some older platforms) is set in fully rendered 3D environments and you can find both Nokia N80 high-resolution screenshots and the press release below.
Ever wondered about the RAM situation on your 3rd Edition smartphone? Fancy taking a peek into the world of processes, application capabilities and operating system data files? If this is you, then you'll be interested in my review of Best TaskMan, here trialled on the Nokia E61.
No, not the technology, this is the Podcasting application that Nokia has released as a free beta for all 3rd Edition smartphones. If there's anyone around here who knows a bit about podcasting then it's our own Ewan. Here's his review.
Keeping up spirits in the long, long wait for the Sony Ericsson P990i, broadband users might like to watch the new P990i promo video. While you're there, they've also put up a (shorter) promo for the W950i, also running UIQ 3. And, just to be complete, here's the promo video for the M600i, still sporting a broken screen, alas(!)
According to an interview on Gamasutra, Nokia is planning to launch its next generation of games across its latest S60 smartphone range in the Spring of 2007, and a number of "gaming-oriented" smartphone models will also be made available later, possibly in 2008. The gaming models would still be S60 smartphones, as the original N-Gage was, but they would have landscape screens and hardware accelerated graphics. The fate of the N-Gage name is unclear however.
It's true that I've only had the Nokia E61 for a couple of weeks, but I've had a first stab at an E61 Tips page over on 3-Lib. If you've found any handy shortcuts or tips, please add them in Comments. Rafe will be along soon with a more advanced E61 tips round-up here on AAS.
Steve's been busy worrying about his 'secret stuff' and where to keep it all. And (much as Rafe and I in the past have also done), he's turned to Epocware's Handy Safe. His review of the latest S60 version goes into more detail on why this PC and mobile-based system is one of the best around.
Just a memory jogger for those who've been waiting for the next generation of UIQ smartphones - the Sony Ericsson M600i is now in the wild and in stock across Europe (e.g. Expansys). Once kitted out, remember to report back in our M600i forum. (The P990i is still quoted as 'early July')
Proudly presenting the first AAS Week in Review. Recognising that it's easy to miss a few days and fall behind with what's new on All About Symbian, we're going to do a weekly round-up. If you're really pushed for time, this is the weekly list of articles and links to check out.
Christopher Rydberg, our regular N-Gage hard core reviewer, has played X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse to death and delivers a very positive verdict for all N-Gage gaming fans.
Nokia have released a beta version of their new Podcasting application for the Nokia N91 (it also works on other S60 3rd Edition handsets). It allows you to search for, browse directories of, subscribe to and download podcasts (i.e. it's a podcatcher). Podcasting is the provision of episodic multimedia content via RSS feeds (usually audio or video). Read on for screenshots and further details.
MobiSystems have released OfficeSuite for S60 3rd Edition, allowing you to view and edit Word and Excel documents on your phone. Its view mode is unrestricted, while there is a 30 day trial limit for editing.
