Nokia's iconic LifeBlog system is now available in 2.0 guise for all Nseries smartphones, here's the main download and info page. Thanks to Tommi for the heads-up.
Simon Judge, a freelance mobile developer, has released the first piece of (native) freeware for S60 3rd Edition. SExplorer (available in beta) is a file explorer utility. Features include the browsing of all drives (but not the folders protected by the Symbian 9 security model), creating, moving, and renaming of folders and files and opening files according to their file type.
As reported by the S60 Multimedia Blog the support pages for the Nokia N91 are now available. The support pages includes the manual and interactive demonstrations to help you get the most out of the phone. Also available is the Nokia Music Manager Plug-in for iTunes on the Mac which allows you to sync music between your N91 and Mac OSX.
Another blast from the past, perhaps, but if still have any old Psion 5mx, Revo or Series 7 netBook palmtops, note that Opera has now been made freeware for each of these. See PScience5 for the appropriate ZIPs and instructions.
Opera Mini, the proxy browser that I declared in my review would 'change the way you browse, the sign of a killer application' seems to be going from strength to strength, according to Opera's latest press release and observing a number of industry deals, ranging from added-value branding and support from Onspeed Mobile to a variety of redistribution deals. Opera Mini currently serves up over 4 million pages a day to mobile and smartphone users.
The Emblaze Group today announced the launch of it's emoze push email solution for mobile phones. The personal edition is being made available for free. The personal edition works by installing a connector into your PC's email client which pushes received email to the emoze distribution network from where it is intelligently pushed to your mobile device.
Steve's review of "Best Ball" from Smartphoneware reflects the fun of companies trading properties, because Ewan reviewed it under the guise of "Powerball" from Symbianware over two years ago. See how much they (dis)agree with each other in the dual reviews!
Woize plans to launch a SIP client for Symbian OS 9.1 (S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3). The software is targeted at WiFI enabled phones. Wozie offers a similar service to Skype with clients available for PC and other mobile platforms. It is primairly aimed at consumers. Calls between Woize users are free with low charges for normal land and mobile lines.
Joining Quickoffice in the world of S60 Office applications is Mobi-Systems snappily-named OfficeSuite. Steve has hammered it with his detailed test files to see how this title works in the real world, and you can find out why this suite shows promise (but still has some way to go) in his review of Office Suite.
For a limited time, AAS friend Mike Ullrich has made his DevMan (task switching, processor loading, that sort of thing) utility free, with reg codes generated automatically on the download page. Grab it while you can?
AllTunes is a music download service from the company behind AllofMP3. AllTunes provides an iTunes like PC client, but there is also a beta version of a smartphone client application available for S60 (2nd Edition) and UIQ 2 phones. The program is not fully functional yet (downloads are not yet implemented), but it does provide an interesting glimpse of one possible music service for mobiles.
There's a new release, 1.4, of Nokia's free Mobile Search application on the official site. Curiously, it's still labelled as a beta in the 'About' screen. Mobile Search is an official mobile-friendly way into Yell.com and Medio's country databases, plus Yahoo Web and Image search. Watch this space for a detailed review.
Proving that Series 80 development is alive and well, AAS's own Arjen has a new freeware utility for auto-starting the applications of your choice (to save waiting when needed). See his forum post for links and feedback!
New to S60 smartphones and confused by all the icons and the way nothing's to hand when you want it? Steve Litchfield has just the 'How to' for you. Do browse through the rest of AAS's 'How to' section when you get a chance, there's lots you may not have seen.
