It seems high profile blogger Robert Scoble has got himself a Nokia N95, with a clear month to assess it before his iPhone arrives. Yes, they're two different devices for largely different markets, but it'll still be interesting to see his analysis of the two, one after the other. (Via N95 Blog) (PS: Apple iPhone launch date 29th June, says the BBC - Ewan)
Having a virtual camcorder in your pocket (well, in your smartphone) means being able to grab ad-hoc moments for posterity. But how embarrassed will you be with the quality when these moments are later burned onto DVD and played back through a proper TV? I investigate....
Apologies to those of you who read my recent review of the BH-501 Bluetooth stereo headphones, I made a large error. It turns out that they CAN automatically connect to a paired phone, but (unlike some Bluetooth headphones) you have to press their main button a second time after using it to switch them on. For more details, and an improved score, see the updated BH-501 review.
Ho yes, don't say that we at AllAboutSymbian don't put devices through the real world wringer. Among all the other uses for my Nokia E90, one of the most useful has been as a mobile cinema (shown below) and Rafe's used his Nokia N95 to er.. check the pilot's flight data on an aircraft!
Yes, not Symbian, but an interesting new concept for smartphones and their working environment. The Foleo seems to be a dumb clamshell that piggybacks onto a smartphone's connectivity. I think it's a dumb idea as well, but comments welcome. Could this sort of idea catch on?
Two previews of the Sony Ericsson P1 based on the prototypes have appeared on the internet, on my-symbian.com and on mobile-review.com. Bear in mind the production model P1 which actually gets to the shops may be significantly different to the prototype. The estimated release date is August 2007.
The folks at MobileBurn have snagged themselves a production Nokia N76 and review it in reasonable depth. The good: it's sleek and with the usual S60 degree of 'smart'ness. The bad: only a 700mAh battery, a hiss on music playback and a 3.5mm audio jack location that fouls the flip lid... And yes, we're enquiring after a review N76 of our own....
AAS reader Abbas Reza emailed in with some eloquent opinions on the comparison between the Nokia N95 and E90, perhaps the two converged devices of the moment. Steve enters into the debate and then Rafe ties things up at the end. Presenting N95 vs E90: your Wednesday morning read...
In this editorial feature, Steve details a day in the life of his E90 Communicator. Not only does he demonstrate the versatility of the device, giving some practical examples of the uses to which you can put an E90, he also illustrates the sort of battery life you can expect in real world usage. Summary: 1500mAh goes quite a bit further than the 950mAh of the N95's battery, despite the extra display size and RAM...
Surely, I thought, gazing at the Nokia N95 on my desk. Surely, its camera can't really be as bad as I and other 'power users' have been making it? Indeed it's not, and it's all due to a bug in the N95 firmware.... read on below!
