I've spent plenty of hands-on time with both the Apple iPhone (now announced in the UK) and the Nokia N95 8GB (announced at Go:Play last month). These two 'black beauties' are the smartphone flagships for Christmas, but how do they fare against each other? Where are their strengths and which one comes out on top? Ewan's something of a wiz on the old Rubik's cube, making him a natural for reviewing Magic Cube on his Nokia N95. It's Java-based though, so should run on just about any other smartphone. With a neat keypad-based interface, Magic Cube gets the thumbs up.
A thread discussing the next steps of the Symbian Signed program is currently available on the Symbian Developer Network. Proposed changes envision three main types of signing: 'Open Signed' for use during the development process, 'Express Signed' suitable for many applications and 'Certified Signed' similar to the current process.

OK, so it was only of fringe interest to S60 and UIQ users, but in the latest U-turn in a long series of stumbles and blind alleys, it seems Palm has canned its 'smartphone companion' completely, citing a desire to keep everything focussed within a single software platform. Symbian has finalised its agenda and show layout for its annual Smartphone Show in London, on 16-17th October at the ExCeL centre. Listed below are some of the last minute speaker sign ups and some thumbnails, plus links. The show is free to attend, as is the AAS pub meet on the evening of the 15th, details to be announced, but the prize list is pretty impressive....(!) Oh, and keep the evening of the 16th free as well - watch this space.
