Carnival Of The Mobilists 89 is now available to read over at WAP Review. This week the topics raised in these choice links include Nokia's recent announcements about Ovi and N-Gage, as well as more stuff about the iPhone and an assortment of articles about business and society. And... I'm very glad to say... several dozen rubber ducks.
...In which I ponder the respective build quality of Nokia's N and Eseries smartphones and conclude that the grass is rarely greener over on the other side - you'll still get mud on your feet...
Stefan Constantinescu (as Rafe and I discovered) is not only a young guy with enough life force to power a submarine, he's also very insightful - here's a great post by him on why Ovi is 'the next page in the Nokia story', a story that goes back around 140 years.
emoze, purveyor of a free push email client, has announced that GMail is now supported, meaning that you don't have to be running Microsoft Exchange (or similar) on your main PC to take advantage of 'push'. emoze isn't Java, either, being available in native S60 form. Here's the download page.
Just for completeness, Nokia's new Music Store announcement is reproduced below. As part of the Ovi brand, it will work in conjunction with specific XpressMusic phones (listed at the bottom of the release), plus a brand new PC-hosted music synchronization application. Interesting highlights are that tracks are only 1 Euro each, delivered in very high quality 192kbps DRM-ed WMA files and that you can pay by PayPal. See below for more.
If you want to watch the goings on in London on the Web, here's the direct streaming feed. Update: The link now shows the footage from the Go Play event.
Interested to watch OPK's keynote on the webcast. The video of Nokia's interface vision for next year more or less exactly matched my editorial from a few months ago: I've seen the future and it looks a lot like the iPhone. Watch this space for more analysis from Rafe and Ewan later this week. After Nokia's video I detected a few laughs from people in the audience - the Apple copying was perhaps just too obvious?

Symbian today announced that 18.7 million Symbian OS handsets shipped in Q2 2007, a year on year increase of 52%. There are now 122 Symbian models in the market (up from 86 this time last year) with a further 62 in development (55 last year). Cumulatively 145 million Symbian OS phones have been shipped.
That's right, we couldn't possibly talk about tomorrow's big Nokia launch day in London, although other mainstreammedia have no such reservations. Suffice it to say that Rafe, Ewan and myself will be there in person and reporting live on any music or gaming devices, platforms or services that may (or may not) be announced and demonstrated. Watch AAS during Wednesday for more...
