Pulsepaper is a freeware application that allows you to automatically change your S60 phones wallpaper up to three times a day. The application can sources images from a variety of sources including a flickr search. web image search, weather satellite images and more. DDH Software's HanDBase , the cross platform relational database application, has now reached version 4. New in the S60 version is the ability to create and edit the database structure on the device itself (previously only data entry was supported). This means HanDBase is now the complete relational database solution for S60 phones. Also new is support for floating dates in filters which gives the ability to see records from the last week, last day and so on.
Here are two free UIQ applications that recently caught our eye. Swim is an application which allows you to automatically sync to a SyncML server on a schedule (e.g. every hour). PodcastPlayer is a podcatcher (podcast downloader) for UIQ 3 phones. A new version of Linkboy has just been released on the developer's web site. For UIQ 3 users, Linkboy provides customisable shortcuts which are integrated into the standby screen. Sebastian Jedruszkiewicz has released the first version of emTube, a freeware YouTube client application. emTube allows you to browse (by search, by featured video, by top rated videos and by most viewed videos), view and download YouTube videos or play back a locally stored file. It is an impressively polished application for a first release and is the best YouTube/FlashVideo solution for S60 phones I have seen thus far. Read on for screenshots and more details.
Steve has been looking at the latest version of Quickoffice , a powerful office suite for S60 phones. The principal update in version 5 is the addition of support for the new file formats used in Microsoft Office 2007. There are other items of interest too, including printing support, faster operation and a better interface.
Nokia today announced a new first party game for the Next Gen N-Gage platform called Dirk Spanner, which uses a phone's camera to control the game (apparently you can look round locations by just moving the phone). Find out more over on All About N-Gage...
Another great Italian theme designer PiZero has now released a couple of lovely subtle Christmas themes for S60 3rd Edition, Red X-Mas and Blue X-Mas, both of which are utterly practical as well as gorgeous. Mark/Space is planning to bring Missing Sync to the Symbian platform. Missing Sync is a sync solution for Mac OS X users, it allows syncronisation of contacts (Apple Address Book), calendar entries (iCal), photos (iPhoto), videos (Quick Time) and music (iTunes) to and from the phone. The software supports all UIQ 3 and S60 3rd Edition phones and will be made available in Q1 2008.
Symbian has announced the improved version of Symbian Signed, which was revealed at the Smartphone Show, has now launched. Symbian Signed now comes in three flavours: Open Signed (for developer testing), Express Signed (instant online signing for $20) and Certified Signed (broadly similar to the previous iteration). Express Signed significantly lowers the cost of signing for most application developers and should result in more applications being made available.
