Just a memory jogger for those who've been waiting for the next generation of UIQ smartphones - the Sony Ericsson M600i is now in the wild and in stock across Europe (e.g. Expansys). Once kitted out, remember to report back in our M600i forum. (The P990i is still quoted as 'early July')
Over at 3-Lib, I've updated and reworked my comprehensive comparison of all S60 phones, past and present. A quick way to check on device specs, a handy bookmark in your browser and a nostalgia fix for smartphones of old...
Whether motivated by a desire to be 'green', whether you have a real need to be self-sufficient while trekking, or whether you simply don't want to waste all this sunlight, you'll be interested in Steve's review of the GoSolar charger.
According to Expansys, you can order the Sony Ericsson M600i UIQ 3 music smartphone today and it'll be shipped in 4 working days. Let's hope the P990i isn't far behind (Expansys quotes 'Early July' for this).
Steve reviews the N71, Nokia's S60 3rd Edition clamshell. He finds a device with some foibles, but a unique form factor. With the first S60 portrait QVGA screen, clean and stylish lines, good camera and both Snakes and Quickoffice viewers built into the ROM, Steve is impressed. It might not be the media darling of the Nseries, but it packs a powerful mobile punch.
The recently announced Nokia N72 started shipping today. The Nokia N72 is a variant on the N70 and is intended as a fashion focused smartphone for emerging markets. It is a tri-band GSM (with EDGE) phone with a 2.0 Megapixels camera, FM Radio, Music Player, and 20MB of on board memory (expandable via a RS-MMC slot).
The well known 24/7 sites, which focus on Windows Mobile and Palm PDA/smartphones recently published an initial look at the Nokia E61 inthreeparts. Shaun found himself pleasantly suprised by the E61 and declares that the E61 is the 'best Smart Phone I have ever used. From its build quaility, through to the operating system and finally its flexibility it stands head and shoulders above the rest'.
At the S60 Summit last week, Rafe got some serious hands-on time with the Nokia E50, the very latest (and diminutive) S60 3rd Edition smartphone. What can it do and who's it aimed at?
Ewan and I have battled firmware updates, Internet outages, hard disk failures and the vagaries of digital video to bring you both this huge Nokia E61 web review (now updated with loads of screenshots!) and this 15 minute video review (MP4 format, 42MB) (right-click and choose 'Save as', if you want to carry on surfing while it downloads).
According to Nokia's E50 webcast yesterday, the E70 is now shipping and its support pages are up. Thought you'd like to know that. Anyone seen one in the wild yet?

While we all wait for the latest N or Eseries super phone, Steve looks back wistfully at his 7710, and discovers a handheld that's been quietly improving itself. It's still a great choice of device, with the latest firmware upgrade making it competitive with anything else on the market.
You've got to admire these Russians, even if this 'review' of the Nokia N93 (which doesn't even get released for another three or four months) does give away some of their secrets, showing them hands-on at a press event. Still, they weave brief hands-on experience together with hard facts and opinions pretty well, albeit in the usual slightly broken English.
Researching the DVB-H pilots, I spotted that there's now a flash video of the upcoming N92 in action on Nokia's main Mobile TV web site. Lots of other interesting articles to peruse too, if you're interested in how all this is actually going to work.
