AAS chief Rafe Blandford weighs in with his official predictions and challenges for 2007, along with an assessment of what he got right and wrong from last year's predictions piece. Essential reading for anyone in the industry or who is interested in where the Symbian OS world is going. Plus, a bonus preview of the front cover of Symbian magazine, Dec 2007...
Interesting to see the other famous(!) video-obsessed Nokia N93 nut, Steve Garfield, posting his long term thoughts on the device. Interesting too to see that he's hit some of the same lock-ups that lose precious footage as me. Summary: great device, but Nokia must fix the camera bugs in the v20 firmware.
Ewan continues his first steps with the Sony Ericsson W950i, demonstrating how to hook it up to his PC and how to install his first application. And Happy New Year! Rafe'll be along in a while with some 2007 predictions...
It's...... AllAboutSymbian videocast no. 5, in which I review the Nokia 5500 and demonstrate all its unique attributes. Summary? Hey, so what if it's got a 208 pixel screen? - you can use this baby underwater!
Ah, the customary spare moment for Steve to update his smartphone Grid, now with the addition of the Nokia 5500 and Palm Treo 750v. Which one is now the best smartphone for you? Plug in your prefs and let the javascript decide! [updated: also now has the P990i and N73]
The folks at Digital Lifestyles have been trying out 3's X-series in the guise of the only supported handset, the S60 3rd Edition-powered Nokia N73. Here's their write-up of the platform and services. Via Engadget.
In another AAS exclusive(!), Steve Litchfield reviews Nokia's DT-22 tripod for the video-recording N93. Summary: it's tiny but well made, and its best feature is that, like the starship Enterprise, it separates so that you can use the top half on its own.
Continuing our two-pronged (video/text) review approach, here's the traditional version of my Nokia E60 review, which goes into slightly more detail and has extra screenshots.
Nokia have added a number of user agent profile files to their website including ones for the as yet unannounced Nokia E61i and Nokia E65 models. Careful reading of the user agent profiles reveals that both devices run on S60 3rd Edition on Symbian OS 9.1. The E61i appears to be a tweaked version of the E61. Changes from the E61 include the addition of a camera and a change to the MicroSD memory card format. Read on for more.
It's Yet Another Nokia N95 Preview - from the 'Mr Brown Show', and filmed on an N93 (though they go for too many out of focus close-ups.... FX: Steve wanders off, muttering....) Five minutes long, and in MP4, WMV and YouTube formats, too....
