Oooh what’s this waiting for me? It’s a mysterious package from Sweden! One attack by a Stanley Knife later, and I have the ‘mystic purple’ box of Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phone, the W950i. This continues on the use of the Walkman brand in the successful series of SE phones, but now with added UIQ 3 power. And while there’s no way I can do a full review on this svelte little number (yet), I can show you what’s in the box, give you some pictures, and let you have almost as fun as I did opening the box.

A very simple box and a clean look - there are no overwhelming images of people, or indication of what the phone can do. It's very easy on the eye and gets you to the most important thing (the phone) first. You can't help but lift it up, rip the plastic off and note the synergy in the box colours to the 'mystic purple' of the handset itself.

Lifting up the left hand packing section reveals the AC charger on the left, and the rest of the cabling on the right.

Being a Walkman phone, it's only natural that we've got some headphones - and very nice they are too, a variant of the in-ear fontopia, with different sized silicone sleeves to match the size of your ears.

The inline remote control provides you with a 3.5mm stereo jack socket - you need to plug this into the proprietary connector at the base to use your own headphones.

Under all these, we have a felt slip case - there's almost zero protection from knocks with this, but it's a nice touch to include it. I think that speaks more for the Walkman brand - Sony usually bundles slip cases in with their MP3 players and Minidisc Recorders.

The square orange box contains all your paperwork - along with the manuals and the flashy leaflets, the CDs with the "PC Connectivity Suite" and "Try and Buy" applications are in here as well.

Let's not forget the battery. It's the standard Sony Ericsson BST-33, rated at 950 mAh.

Put it all together, charge it up and you're welcomed with yet more Walkman branding - there's no way you can mistake the group that this phone is targetted at.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be exploring the W950 and documenting it here at All About Symbian, so keep reading. The big question (which is going to take some time to get to) is which wins out of these two...
