New Content for Nokia Video Center

Nokia today announced that its has added new content parters to the Nokia Video Center. Nokia Video Center, an application which runs on the Nokia N95 and will be available on future devices, offers Nseries users a simple way to access video content (effectively it's a video podcast aggregator / catcher). New content partners include Sony Pictures (movie trailers), ROK (FreeBeTV) and CNN (news for the APAC region).

Nokia to acquire Navteq for $8.1 Billion

In what is one of the most significant technology acquisitions of the year Nokia has announced it is to acquire Navteq for $8.1 billion. Navteq is the leading provider of digital map information which is used in car navigation systems (e.g. BMW), mobile navigation devices (e.g. Garmin), Internet-based mapping applications (e.g. Google Maps), and government and business solutions. Nokia uses Navteq data in its own Nokia Maps product.

Adobe launches Flash Lite 3

A couple of links of interest looking ahead to the future. Adobe has formally announced Flash Lite 3 which will be available first on NTT DoCoMo and Nokia phones. The new version includes support for Flash video (e.g. on YouTube), and Adobe says the aim is to more closely replicate the experience of Flash on the desktop. To go along with the announcement Forum Nokia launched a Creative Pros section to help desktop Flash developers port their content to mobile devices.

The E90 8GB? Weekend pretensions...

Purely gratuitous, but it's the weekend. It's amazing what a difference a theme can make. And I've fallen in love (despite my preference for white themes) with the next gen N95 8GB black theme and wondered how it would look on my E90. Pretty darned sexy is the answer - or at least, as sexy as it's possible for the E90 to get! Photo below.

Magitti showing the way

From PARC, the legendary and visionary development centre in Palo Alto, comes Magitti, a next generation mobile-hosted search system that's aware of your position, your preferences, your schedule, the time of day, and so forth, to produce location-specific help that's actually useful. The software's still undergoing trials, but consider this a heads-up on what we all need by next summer. Oh, and you'll need a GPS in your smartphone, too, hopefully standard equipment for 2008?
