More podcasting from the recent Nokia Go:Play event as Rafe and Ewan get their hands on the new S60 devices and chat to two of the Nokia team members behind them. First up is the N95 8GB, while the Ovi-focussed N81 takes up the second half of AAS audio podcast number 33.
OK, so it was only of fringe interest to S60 and UIQ users, but in the latest U-turn in a long series of stumbles and blind alleys, it seems Palm has canned its 'smartphone companion' completely, citing a desire to keep everything focussed within a single software platform. Er... which platform would that be, exactly? (via MobHappy)
...In which I ponder the respective build quality of Nokia's N and Eseries smartphones and conclude that the grass is rarely greener over on the other side - you'll still get mud on your feet...
It seems as though the USA version of the N95 8GB is going to be launched and demoed at the end of September. The Consumed by S60 blog has details of a special 'party' in the LA area, while Engadget Mobile has been showing off an actual USA spec (850/1900 MHz) model.
Steve Litchfield went along to the informal Go:Play:Reloaded event (ok, ok, a boat trip and lots of chatting) held the day after the main launch, to get some quality hands on time with Nokia's new devices and interface. Longer analysis to follow, but here are some of the most interesting images from today....
If you want to watch the goings on in London on the Web, here's the direct streaming feed. Update: The link now shows the footage from the Go Play event.
Below is the official press release from Nokia announcing, among other things, the N81 and N95 in 8GB versions. I've inserted some glossy photos as well. Rafe and Ewan will add hands-on photos during the day in the main Flickr stream at the top of the AAS front page.
First impressions are great, of course. I was especially interested to see the much-increased scope of the 'multimedia' key and its carousel menu, with panes/sub-menus for the elements of 'Ovi', including the Nokia Music Store and N-Gage, of course.
Yup, today's the day, and the worst kept secret in the smartphone world is about to go official. For some reason, the Far East has got the press photos of the Nokia N95 8GB and N81 first. Rafe And Ewan will be posting live photos from London shortly. Watch the top strip!
