Forum enthusiast (on several sites) Menneisyys put together a multi-part 'bible' post on the differences between vanilla MP4 and H.264 video (ASP vs AVC) in our forums. He actually did this a couple of months ago but the subject's more relevant now than ever. Read on for the link and some of my own thoughts.
Ho hum, another month, another would-be competitor to the Nokia E90 Communicator. This time it's the Asus M390W , running Windows Mobile 6 and also with HSDPA, etc. Still, the run of E90 copies surely shows that there's a market for this much-maligned form factor?
As the N82 arrived in Steve hands we noticed an interesting detail - bundled navigation. It seems that Nokia's imaging Nseries flagship will be shipping with 3 months of free navigation and local maps pre-installed on the included 2GB microSD card in select European markets. Read on for a photo and more detail.
Nokia's latest Nseries device, the N82, is now becoming available online in the UK. The Nokia UK Online shop offers the SIM-free Nokia N82 adventure pack which is available from the at £399. The adventure pack bundles a copy of Nokia's Sport Tracker Application and a Salomon back pack with the phone. Our affiliate phone shop also has the N82 from free on a range of O2 contracts as does Carphone Warehouse and other retailers are likely to have similar offers.
AAS regular Tim Salmon ordered a new Nokia N95 (classic) recently and received a box with sticker (shown below) proclaiming that the DC-4 car charger is now also included 'in the box'. Comments welcome as to how widespread this practice is, but it's a big thumbs-up from my perspective and is one less cable to buy for new owners.
The Nokia E90 alone in terms of form factor and specs for so long, is about to acquire a Windows Mobile-powered rival, the Toshiba Portege G910, according to Unwired View . Mind you, I said the same about the i-Mate Ultimate 7150, and look what happened to that...
As a died in the wool Symbian OS smartphone user, you've probably still wondered what it's like to use a rival phone/smartphone. One novel approach is that by TryPhone, who have put up Flash working demos of the Apple iPhone and BlackBerry Pearl. Quite interesting, and maybe there will be an N95-3 demo for users of other platforms to try in the future?
I know quite a few N95 and E90 owners have been waiting for this (I gave in and bought a 6GB microSDHC last week!), but it seems that the official SanDisk 8GB microSDHC cards are now available in the UK . The price is £55 inc VAT.
With Nokia's impending reorganisation, I started wondering what I'd do about the devices and visions from the current different divisions within the company. What would you do when integrating three separate hardware divisions? Read on for some of my thoughts...
