After a hugely detailed and comprehensive beta phase lasting over a year, Python for S60, or 'PyS60' is finally finished, ending up at v1.4. I'm sure there will be further minor updates, but in the meantime, it's stable, signed and complete. I even got spurred on into revisiting my Musician and making it work on far more S60 3rd Edition phones.
Mere hours after I plead in the AAS video podcast with Nokia to release the v12 firmware for the Nokia N95, it appears! On Nokia Software Update now, v12.0.013. Changelist to come below in a mo'. Thanks to WOM World for nudging me ahead of my daily NSU check!
In the interests of science, I thought I'd try out the updated Smart2Go (also known as Nokia Maps) MapLoader, v1.1g, in conjunction with the now fairly old Smart2Go beta on the Nokia E61. I was in for one delight and one huge surprise....
New staff writer Attila Katona has been sitting on this review of Handy Taskman for S60 for a couple of weeks - but I managed to wheedle it out of him! Meanwhile I've been trying the latest (and rival) Best TaskMan and have been equally impressed. Nothing wrong with having two terrific utilities that are both available in trial form...
It's..... AAS video podcast 17, in which I muse on the gulf between opposite ends of the smartphone spectrum, despair over trolling fanboys and look ahead to hardware coming up in the second half of 2007. If you want to get all our podcasts, here's the RSS feed.

It seems that the Nokia E90 Communicator is now 'available' in the USA, thanks to Nokia's deal with Dell. Well, '1 to 2 weeks' to ship, anyway.... (via IntoMobile)
Thanks to a post on the Eseries blog, it seems that the E65, E61i and E90 are now supported by Nokia Media Transfer, the imaging and music connection suite. Cool.
I was most interested to hear Andrew Orlowski's comments on the Nokia E90 Communicator in last week's podcast, but felt that I just had to jump and defend what dubbed the 'Cargo Cult' communicator. Here's my analysis of the E90's interface and raison d'être...
Ewan demonstrates, with a little help from his Yahoo HackDay project, how easy it is to edit together a video presentation on the Nokia N95. Incidentally, note that many other Nseries devices have the same editor built-in. Open up an image in Gallery and look in 'Options', etc.
You'll remember that Best TaskMan, a 'system' utility for peeking under the hood of your S60 smartphone, had some issues in its S60 3rd Edition version? Well, it's back, fixed and with a truck load of extra features, including proper hotkey support and a Windows-like alt-tab system. And it's only $10 (£5), which is pretty impressive. Here's the Best TaskMan product page in our software shop.
Here's something useful for your summer travels and completely free. CoolGorilla have created a freeware talking phrasebook, available in half a dozen languages. It runs under Java, so should work with the majority of S60 and UIQ smartphones. Just pick the model in their list that's closest to what you have. It worked fine on my E90 8-) (Via MobHappy)
Krisse has the scoop and the review on the Nokia 6120 Classic (and its 6121 stablemate) - the smallest and lightest smartphone in the world, and with the lowest S60 3rd Edition launch price so far. Is this amazing value for money, or cheap and nasty? Oh, and Krisse also launches a brand new unit of smartphone size comparisons - the AEM...
We've tried not to overdo the iPhone coverage and comparisons, but I couldn't resist linking to Paul Whitaker's nicely done mini-movie, shot on the N95, as he and a friend stalk the line of iPhone 'waiters'...
