Java Access to the Nokia Arena

More E3 news, as Nokia and Sega provide the first public demo of the SNAP system that allows Java programmers to access all the online features of the Nokia N-Gage Arena. This includes community features, lists of friends, instant messaging in game systems, and the ability to upload and store data on an Arena like server. While primarily aimed at networks and service providers (can we all say Vodafone Live?), this MIDP2.0 SDK should be available free of charge in Q3 2004.

Slew of N-Gage Games Announced

The E3 Technology Conference in Los Angeles sees Nokia announce eight new N-Gage games for release in 2004 and early 2005. What have we got to look forward to? Civilisation, Driv3r, Fifa 2005 (there's a surprise!), King of Fighters, Glimmerati, Rifts, SSX Out of Bounds and Xanadu Next. Some great names and titles, including another N-Gage specific title in the "Glam Driving Experience" of Glimmerati. And we've finally got a beat em up title!

Symbian Announce 2004 Results

2.4 million Symbian powered phones have been sold in the first quarter of 2004 Symbian announced today. 18 products are available, 7 new products were announced, with a further 30 products under development through 9 licenees. All in all, it's steady as she goes, and everything seems to be growing at a sustainable rate.

Python hits UIQ too

Following on from all the hype of Amaretto - Nokia's port of Python to series 60. Sometime #mobitopian Enki Boehm has released a Python port for UIQ (test binary available on request). Classic stuff and very much in the tradition of Python on Epoc, where there have been a number of ports in the past from lone hackers scratching their itches.

Semacode - URL barcode reader for Series 60

Simon Woodside has announced the availability of Semacode Reader for Series 60. With this software you can read Semacode barcodes which are converted to URL's and launched in the phone's web browser. You take a picture with your cameraphone and it automatically decodes the URL coded in the barcode. Creation of semacodes and the reading software is free.

Freecraft (Warcraft clone) for UIQ in development.

AnotherGuest,the developer of PicoDrive,GoBoy and many other emulators for UIQ has been playing around as he says.He is working on a Freecraft (Warcraft clone) port for UIQ.This project might never see the light of day because of the hardware limitations (Read more RAM needed) of UIQ devices.All we can do now is hope.Screenshot attached.
