Still pressing for recognition of the significance (for some) of qwerty keyboards on mobile devices, Steve has a chance conversation in London and is shocked how narrowly many people seem to still use their smartphones. Here's his subsequent musings.
I was interested to see this blog entry reviewing one of the cheap add-on macro lenses that you can buy for standard fixed-focus smartphone cameras. Good stuff - but I can't find anywhere that sells them online - over to you guys in the comments?
Richard Bloor takes a detailed look at the Sony Ericsson P990i (yes, we have one now, too - Rafe's testing it while in the USA), reviewing it with his developer hat on. Plenty of interesting observations and a positive perspective on this latest UIQ 3 device.
Thanks to Techmundo for pointing us towards the official Flash demo of the new features in Nokia's upcoming revamp of their S60 3rd Edition web browser. Now, I wonder whether this will make it into NSU firmware updates for our current devices?
Ewan harks back to 70's action TV with the game 'I Hate Guns', for all S60 editions. There's a plot of sorts but it's basically a platform game with lots of beating baddies up - here's his review.
OK, so we're jealous that the folks over in the USA are going to be the only ones getting the Nokia N75 - as we're not going to be able to review it, we'll just have to link to other sites that are in the right place. Here's an initial mini-review from PhoneScoop.
Nokia have announced the launch of the Nokia 3250 Music Edition. Changes from the original 3250 include a new look, a new music application and support for 2GB MicroSD cards. This means there is space for around 1500 full length music tracks out of the box. The 3250 is expected to be available shortly at an unsubsidised cost of 400 Euros.
Steve's dug out his old 6630 and has been trying Road Angel Mobile for S60 2nd Edition, a warning system for speed cameras, schools and accident blackspots. Here's the review. Note also that the developers offer free sign-up to the service before the end of October.
Just a note to remind everyone of our Support knowledge base. This was set up earlier this year as a replacement for the old FAQs and contains hundreds of common (and not so common) questions and answers for devices from all Symbian platforms. Here's the Support front page. If anyone would like to help me maintain/add to this, let me know!
This weeks Carnival of the Mobilists is hosted by Matthew Miller at the Mobile Gadgeteer. He rounds up the best writing about mobile from around the web.
Nokia has announced the N75, a slim clamshell device, aimed initially at the US market. The cover display can also act as your window on your music collection, with dedicated hardware controls. The full press release follows.
Nokia have announced the Nokia N95, featuring an innovative double slide design with multimedia controls and a keypad on opposite end of the phones. Read on for full details, pictures and the full press release.
Here's the webcast URL for the Nseries launches today - the broadcast is now archived there and can be played on demand as-if-live. I went to the London party and took some more photos and had hands-on time with the N95, more of which later in the week.
