Route 66 Mobile 7, a GPS navigation and mapping solution, is now available for S60 3rd Edition devices. Route 66 allows you to navigate by following on screen directions/maps and spoken prompts. Features include free real time traffic information, automatic re-routing when you diverge from pre-planned route, and an address book look-up with fuzzy search and (in theory) full postcode support at last. We will be reviewing Route 66 on S60 3rd Edition next week.
The rise and rise in demand for memory cards for smartphones seems to have sparked a huge industry in fake 'brand name' memory cards, mainly originating from the Far East. if you're about to buy a card, it's worth reading my advice about this over on 3-Lib. Feel free to name drop reputable local suppliers in the comments below this item.
N70Torch is a piece of software that allows you to use the N70's built in flash for illumination. Normally the LED/photo light on rear of the device is only activated when taking pictures. N70Torch allows the LED to be switched on and used for illumination. I've been reviewing Magi-Lines, one of ZingMagic's latest round of puzzle and strategy game conversions. It may not have 3D baddies or swooshing sound effects, but Magi-Lines is as brain-stretching as puzzle games go and it works superbly on every single Symbian-based platform.
I just love the idea of using smartphone technology to interact with the people around you - Mobslinger is an innovative Bluetooth multi-player game for S60 and should be a hoot when played at the annual AllAboutSymbian pre-Expo pub meet!

According to an interview on Gamasutra, Nokia is planning to launch its next generation of games across its latest S60 smartphone range in the Spring of 2007, and a number of "gaming-oriented" smartphone models will also be made available later, possibly in 2008. The gaming models would still be S60 smartphones, as the original N-Gage was, but they would have landscape screens and hardware accelerated graphics. The fate of the N-Gage name is unclear however.
Steve's been busy worrying about his 'secret stuff' and where to keep it all. And (much as Rafe and I in the past have also done), he's turned to Epocware's Handy Safe. His review of the latest S60 version goes into more detail on why this PC and mobile-based system is one of the best around.
