The P990's R6D23 update.... in depth

AAS regular and committed P-series fan Asri al-Baker takes Sony Ericsson's latest R6D23 firmware update to task, although he admits at the end of the day that it's still a worthwhile step, thankfully with less new bugs than fixes for old ones.

"First of all, the "spacebar bug". Pressing the spacebar in FO mode doesn't bring the Phone application to the front. I thought maybe it was a firmware update gone wrong so I formatted my P990 and went through the updating process once again. Another half an hour passed by and it is still there! It's a new bug (or a feature?)

Secondly, poor memory management. On the previous firmware R5A17, I could launch my favourite applications (DreamConnect 3, Projekt, Messaging and Exchange ActiveSync) and leave them running in the background without any problem, and I could launch other apps without killing any of the above. But on the new firmware R6D23, things are different. I can launch those 4 applications but, if I want to launch other apps, Picture Gallery for example, Messaging and DreamConnect 3 become casualties. I can't even surf the internet comfortably without closing all running applications!"
