The download mechanism will take the form of an EA store within the Content Discover program (Catalogs, or Download! depending the phone). The Catalogs application is made up of a series of sections each of which represent one store. Nokia have been adding partners to Content Discoverer and in the future we can expect to see stores from Nokia themselves, EA, Warber Brothers, Handano, Jamba and other content providers.
Initially, in the EA store, customers will be able to download seven EA titles, Tetris, Tetris Mania, The Sims 2, Doom, FIFA 06, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 and FIFA Street 2 this holiday season.
EA have also committed to, from mid-2007, supporting the launch of the Nokia next generation mobile games platform (the sucessor to the N-Gage platform). Upgrades of existing N-Gage EA titles are likely to be available together with fresh franchises. Nokia's next generation gaming platform runs on the S60 platform.
"The core of Nokia's games strategy is to make it easy for people to find, buy and play great quality mobile games and we're excited to expand our relationship with EA to help make that possible," said Jaakko Kaidesoja, director, games, Multimedia, Nokia. "Nokia and EA have a common vision regarding the opportunities in mobile games and how to turn them into a reality. When you combine Nokia's leadership in hardware, usabiliy and software platforms with EA's brands and quality thresholds, the results will speak for themselves."
