The Nokia N8 seen through YouTube videos

Published by Rafe Blandford at 15:35 UTC, April 27th 2010

As part of their launch communications Nokia have uploaded a series of videos to YouTube showing off some of the key elements on the Nokia N8. Plus there's a video showcasing the N8's design with the help of a hands freestyler and another telling you about Nokia's 'Make My App' competition, through which you could win your own N8 and a trip to London. We have rounded up all these videos up into a single post - read on to see the videos and additional details.

Introducing the Nokia N8

This video offers an overview of the Nokia N8. Each section of the video is also available separately on the Nokia YouTube channel (linked individually below).

Notable points include demonstrations of the slim line form factor, multi-touch in the camera application, updated image editing application, 720p (HD) video recording and playback, home entertainment (HDMI out and Dolby surround sound), Facebook (updated client and homescreen integration), multi-page homescreen, updated application UI, Ovi Maps (free navigation), Browser (faster than ever, with flash see you see websites 'the way they are meant to be'), Web TV, Gaming (Angry Birds and Asphalt 5), Music (renewed UI and 2 days playback time).

Nokia N8 launch video

This is Nokia's launch video with the usual mixture of animation and computer renders. It takes you through the key features in two minutes.

Nokia N8 Make My App competition

To help promote the N* (and provide content for the Ovi Store) Nokia are running a 'Make My App' competition to win a trip to London (Nokia World) and a Nokia N8. Nokia are looking for ideas to turn into apps.

The video introduces the competition and interviews two of the judges, Tim Kring (Producer of TV series Heroes) and Matt Osman (London editor of the online magazine le cool), to find out what sort of ideas they think might win.

You can enter the competition here.

Nokia N8 sneak peek

In this final  video Max Vlassenko, hand freestyler (great job title), gets hands on with the Nokia N8. It's a good opportunity to take a closer look at design, a slim line monoblock touch form factor wrapped in metal and glass, and the hand dexterity is OK too.

European and Asia market makes always better phones, don't forget that.

"we stretched for too long, something which should not have been stretched" Thought nokia has learned sth about putting mediocre HW on their products. Can anybody really confirm that Arm11 Achilles heel?

What is the name of the song in the first video?

Great device with the right price.

I believe steve jobs can't sleep well tonight.
Great job nokia.

And i think nokia did a great job with the n8 and the missing children (the you-know-who review). A lot better than the fruit company who wreak havoc the gizmodo Chris.

I want the music as a ringtone - any ideas?

Sorry, I checked for the music using Midomi for Symbian (usually works great), but no results.

Can someone please explain the point of the 30 second video? Uh, you can juggle with the N8????? And only with the N8?????
Rafe
The music was made specially for the video. I imagine it might be released at some point as a free download.

For me, I think the N8 and Symbian^3 are too late...and Symbian^3 is also too little. Owning for over an year the nokia 5800XM made me feel that way. Besides 3.5 oled screen has been seen before (iphone)..and 12mpix (satio) with the add of the HD video recording which is nice. It's feature packed, ofering great specs...but if u look at the device..pure looks..it's very ugly...the N97 mini is way better looking.

Just out of curiosity, which music you say?
from which of the videos?

I am using iPhone for many years and It was ok as it was a strong phone in old days. and I always think future phone which will be a new hit in market must be 2 in 1. a complete computer + phone. so when you come to office you connect your keypad + mouse and screen to it and it becomes a computer and on the same time it is a phone. and I have found that iPhone has a strong marketing, but even latest iPhone 4g cant compare Nokia N8, as it does connect to a screen and to mouse and keyboard on the same time it is a phone, and iPhone has nothing like that.
What iPhone gives is a sleek style and a big name IPHONE wow! yes it sounds good! but when I was always had problems to carry my documents in iPhone, and I was not able to make files for documents, it was so hating, so said no to it. I sold my iPhone and now i use my previous phone N79 and will wait the launch of N8.
I know Nokia has to improve there ovi store and there marketing! what I will suggest them is to show the world what they have done more then everyone else, as apple to it very nicely "as they say ohhh we have made a front camera for video call" as front camera comes in Nokia many years ago. but nokia never talk about it a lot, and it is the mistake. As we all know if you want to give a gift and make it even better rap it in a beautiful pack, and so it is as same as marketing, as apple do! they say we have no antenna wow, our mettle side bars are antenna wow, ohhhh weee love our new phone :)) but they forget to inform the world that it does not work well on this newww antena :)

So my dear Nokia guys, pick up your ass in hand and move it up, oh you will die hard, not because you cant made better, but you cant present better! It need suggestions contact me! :) have a lot of ideas for you guys
