Run the Nokia N97 for a week on one charge?

Published by Steve Litchfield at 18:35 UTC, September 17th 2009

Yes, it's quite practical, once you get over the shock of seeing your svelte N97 turned into something rather retro in feel. Here's my review of the 3600... I'll repeat that: 3600mAh Mugen replacement battery (and cover) for the Nokia N97. And hey, you also get to choose between black and white, and you get a stylus thrown in - what more could the N97 owner away from home ever want?

Stupidest accessory every!

If I was ever going to be away from electricity for a week i'd rather carry a spare battery or two than use that freakish contraption.

It makes the phone look like a hump back whale! :D

This is exactly what you need when going on long nature trips with "Always-on"- backlight,GPS,tracking,sight-seeing,sharing or wahtever gets you going, without that nasty nokia weewee reminding me every 2h that i will run out of power the next minutes. Had something similar for my N95. Works like a charm. Didn't hear any complaints from those reindeers about the ugly formfactor. Pricetag?

what are those black things on the phones edge? dust or ...?

Where can i buy this in the Philippines? I love it. I love the retro look, the monstrous power!

The thing reminds me of my (long dead) Palm LifeDrive from the side with that Mugen battery and cover on.

great idea but i would be scared for my safety given the advent of exploding batteries.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm kinda shocked by observing you guys promoting an acessory that goes against Nokia recomendations about original batteries being pulled in.

Well, I wouldn't give column inches to a cheap eBay no-name battery. But the Mugen people seem to have a good reputation and the price alone inspires confidence that they've tested these things properly.

"the price alone inspires confidence that they've tested these things properly"

Reassuringly expensive, eh Steve?

A bit like Bernie Madoff's commission fees.... worked for him, mostly.

Hi Steve,

can you tell me the total amounts in mm and weight of N97 equipped with this battery ?

YOOBAO BATTERY FOR NOKIA N97 (2800mAH)

It looks similar, has lower capacity but a lot cheaper. I might get one for outdoor trips.

It looks like the one with lower capacity, but when compared to price, this seems to be good.

The accessory adds 1cm and 30g.

I have used Mugen batteries for many years now and never had a problem with them. The cells that they used are very high quality.

This is daft.

If you're going somewhere where there wont be plug sockets for a week (and I can only think of camping/mountain walking as an example) then you probably don't want to be contacted anyway!

Steve, unplug. :)

Viewranger is useful during mountain walking trips, and having a large battery means that a person do not have to worry about changing batteries half way. Having a mobile is also useful during emergencies.

This does not mean that one should stop carrying paper maps and learn how to use a compass properly.

And then find out why it was a lot cheaper - it probably won't last particularly long.

There's been a lot of issues with the 3rd party/extended batteries - for Nokia and HTC devices at least, in that they just don't last long - the batteries just plain die on you.

How about a before and after shot from the side view. Just put the pictures next to each other. ;)

That will give us a better idea...

Thanks

Yes, this would be intersting. Please make some shots next to next in different angles, too.
Especially the stylus-side, which seems to add 2mm more to the thickness of the phone.
Are there any informations about recharging-times ?

Hi,

With the thick back casing, is it in the way of the camera lens when taking photos or videos?

Can someone from Mugen or Yoobao send a photo shot to: purposed@gmail.com with this "up-sized" battery attached?
Unregistered
Hi Steve,

in fact there are a lot of new postings, please don't forget to add some other pics which compare the N97 before and after mounting the battery-extension.

Thanks and best regards,

Kai
