UIQ 3 users have been longing for something llike this since the beginning. GDesk by Gary Leach is a very customisable desktop/launcher application which can be set to replace the built-in launcher (i.e. the P990's Activity Menu). User ohinkka has posted about a port of the classic shoot 'em up, Quake, to S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 phones (Nokia N95, Nokia 6120, Nokia 6110). You will need an original Quake datafile along with the ported application engine (full details are in the forum thread). Of interest to developers is the fact that the port uses Symbian's PIPS libraries and the source code is also available.
A beta version of the new Download! for PC is now available via the Nokia Beta Labs website. Download! for PC allows you to easily download pre-selected content and copy it to your phone adding either a new look (themes, ringtones and wallpaper) or new applications and games. The PC version offers a way to reduce costs and to speed up download times.
Fring, the free VoIP and ICQ/Skype/etc chat client, is now available for the Nokia E90, albeit that it doesn't support the E90's loudspeaker yet. (via My-Symbian forum)
It's here folks. The much anticipated CorePlayer Mobile for Symbian is just released a few minutes ago for S60, S60 3rd Edition, UIQ and UIQ 3. It supports the latest Audio and Video formats such as MP3, AAC, MKA, WMA, WAV, OGG and also H.264 (AVC), MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 part 2 (ASP), DivX, XviD, etc. Full press release after the break!
emoze, purveyor of a free push email client, has announced that GMail is now supported, meaning that you don't have to be running Microsoft Exchange (or similar) on your main PC to take advantage of 'push'. emoze isn't Java, either, being available in native S60 form. Here's the download page.

Nokia today announced that it is working with Vivendi Games Mobile to bring crash Bandicoot games to its next generation N-Gage gaming platform. Crash Bandicoot see you saving the world with a marsupial over a variety of levels with a mixture of action and comedy. Currently there is no information on which games will be coming to the platform or when.
Frozen Bubble, a very popular and addictive freeware game formerly available for S60 and S60 3rd Edition has just been ported to UIQ 3 by AnotherGuest. The game is simple, shoot the balls and try to hit other balls so to create groups of 3 or more bubbles of the same color. Read on for screens and a link.
