Following the big v11 firmware update and following testing of an updated unit, I've rewritten segments of parts one and two of our big Nokia N93 review. Just thought you'd like to know...
Nokia has been issuing its Q3 results, the full press release follows. Unsurprising stats from the release are that multimedia (Nseries) smartphone sales are up 45% year on year, and that enterprise (now mainly Eseries) communicator sales are up by 27%.
An apparently genuine Nokia document contains some interesting details about their Next Gen gaming platform, which is due to launch across a range of Nokia smartphones in the first half of 2007. In the document is a list of publishers which it claims are working on content for the platform, and which surprisingly includes Sony. The document also gives some details about the distribution channels and development kits. (To find out more, click here...)
Office suites were heavily represented at the Show, with Quickoffice previewing their all-new version 4 and Mobile Systems talking about a big Office Suite update in a few week's time. We're putting them head-to-head when the updates are available, but if you can't wait then check out Richard Hodge's comparison of the existing versions, together with the E61 built-in suite.
Thanks to the people who emailed in about the Nokia Software Update web page, with the long awaited firmware upgrade for the Nokia N93 now actually online - I just updated one of the editorial N93s to v11.0.034. There's up to five Megabytes more free RAM and a faster camera, among other changes listed in the comments below.

Samsung's new S60 3rd Edition phone is having its first outing at today's Symbian Smartphone Show. Official specifications include HSDPA, UTMS, EDGE and GPRS connectivity, a 2MP camera (and front facing VGA), 2.3 inch QVGA 262k colour TFT screen, Bluetooth 2.0 (including A2DP), 45MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot. The specifications also list support for Windows Media Audio and Video formats in addition to the usual suspects.
The ability to stream your own personal media content from a base station to a remote device is now coming to Symbian OS through the SlingMedia Player. Allowing you access to your set top TV cable box no matter where you are in the world, it will do wonders for the mobile executive looking for the latest episode of Battlestart Galactica, although the technology is clearly leapfrogging the legal issues in a number of territories.
We're expecting an official announcemnt of LG's first Symbian Powered Phone to happen at the Smartphone Show keyote within the next hour. LG have a stand at the front door, which is strangely bereft of any marketing materials as we arrived, although a black slider/candybar style phone is under a lot of reflecting perspex to tease us . More soon.
Today at the Symbian Smartphone Show Nokia officially announed the availability of its new theme creation tool Carbide.ui. The tool allows for the easy creation of themes and other customisation elements for Nokia smartphones. The tool can be downloaded from the Forum Nokia website.
