The good thing about Google services is that you can get them just about anywhere these days. The folks from Pixelpipe have now created an app that utilises “native WebKit capabilities that are available with Qt”. This app provides Google’s Gmail, Tasks, Calendar and Buzz all in one application. Utilizing Qt technology is a step forward from the pioneering Web RunTime Widgets made by Asri Al Baker. Read on to see how well Pixelpipe have captured the Google experience on Symbian devices.
FootFeed is an application for Symbian^3 phones that answers a problem that the modern geo-location ecosystem has – how to check in to more than one service with as little fussing around as possible. It works, just about, but it’s just that it feels like a 'bait and switch' on the user to build FootFeed's own network. Here's my review...
Pano Wallpaper is a new Qt application which will slice and dice large images into individual wallpapers for your Symbian^3 home screens. It has several recipes, depending whether your taste is for landscape, portrait, or something in between. It's still a different flavour from Android’s single large wallpaper which you can spread yourself across, though. Read on to see how creative you can get when decorating your phone!
You can already tell the time with your smartphone, but do you want it to do some more? SPB hopes so, as the release of SPB Time should prove to you. It’s a new clock, but there are stopwatches, counters, alarms, and a full moon. Let's find out if that's enough.
It's big, it's black, it knows where it is and it's surprisingly thin. Here's the sixth, and final, part in our in-depth review of the retail Nokia E7. I look at the built-in mapping and navigation, at additional applications, both preloaded and supplied via the on-device store, at its homescreens, plus I try to work out where the E7 fits into the smartphone world of 2011. Be sure to also check Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5 of our E7 review so far.
Now, don't laugh. For the attention-distracted and culinary-challenged among us, boiling an egg isn't trivial. It's just far to easy to get distracted and go off reading tweets or stress over something else in the kitchen and before you know it, your boiled egg is... well, a hard boiled egg. 'The Perfect Egg' is, in theory, a cut above the usual egg timer applications, aiming to offer a modicum of advice and a dash of glitz to proceedings. However, it's ultimately as flawed as the vagaries of 'kitchen science' itself.
In this, part five of our in-depth E7 review, I’ll continue to look at the productivity and enterprise features of the E7. Given that the E7 isn’t even available to buy in many areas yet, we are of course reviewing a product release (PR) 1.0 device. Readers should note that its software version is 13.016, which puts it equal in many ways with the PR 1.1 firmware of the N8, C7 and C6-01. Be sure to check Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 of our E7 review so far too.
As you may know, I'm a fan of Xenon flash on a camera phone, turning social evening shots into proper photos rather than blurry messes. However, Xenon illumination lasts only a few microseconds and the unit takes five seconds to recharge, making it totally unsuitable for constant lighting. With LED torch mode rightly becoming a useful feature of many smartphones these days, can anything be done on the Xenon-equipped Nokia N8? Can it help you find your way to the car door or dustbins late at night? PhoneTorch N8 attempts to help...
How about buying or selling a house on your phone? Or renting out a room? That's what Tepilo promises, and while the property market is a little bit scary (and please remember we are definitely not lawyers), this application looks to make the process as simple as possible for those looking to do some property work on their own.
In our continuing Nokia E7-00 review, Rafe has already given you his opinion on the E7 hardware. Following on, Steve has taken you through the image capture and multimeda capabilities of the E7. For parts four and five, I'll be focussing on the productivity and enterprise abilities of Nokia's latest Eseries communicator. In this part, I look at text input options, messaging/email, personal information management and VoIP. In part five, I'll be focussing on the web browser, social networking and productivity software found on the E7.
