UK A920 to get Bluetooth Upgrade
Published by Rafe Blandford at
3 have announced via their website that a software upgrade for the A920 will shortly be available. From December 8th you will be able to take your phone to a 3 store and get it sent away for an upgrade (or possibly exchange it). 3 are not making a charge for this service. Infrared is not supported in this upgrade, but there are plans for a further software update at a date to be annouced. It is anticipated that similar arrangements will be available in other 3 countries.

The Motorola A920
We are aware that a limited number of the first batch of Motorola A920 phones were not Bluetooth® enabled.
What we're doing about it
We are providing a free service for Motorola A920 users to check if their handsets are Bluetooth® enabled, and to upgrade the software on their handsets if required.
How it works
From December 8th, any Motorola A920 customer will be able to take their handset to any one of our flagship 3Stores or the 160 3Points in Superdrug outlets.
The process takes 3 working days and wherever possible, we will provide a loan handset.
If this is not convenient, we can provide an exchange service where the handset will be collected and simultaneously replaced by an A920 which is Bluetooth® enabled. No charge will be made for this carrier exchange service. Customers should call 3 customer services by dialling 333 from their handset, or 0870 7330 333 from any other phone to find out more about this service.
We apologise to those customers who feel they have been inconvenienced by this. We are confident that we can rectify this problem quickly and efficiently and with minimum inconvenience.
Does the A920 support infrared?
We have received queries from some customers as to whether the Motorola A920 supports infrared (to enable it to connect to other infrared devices). The current version of the software does not support infrared, however, we are pleased to announce that we plan to release a further software version for the A920 which will support infrared next year at a price to be determined. More details will be made available in due course.
