The future belongs to the people!

There's an interesting article on the Wireless Development Netowk web site which discusses the future of the Mobile Phone OS. What makes it interesting is that it says that the future really belongs to the system that reaches the ordinary man and woman in the street. Well, I believe that Symbian has already done that......

While I was using my 9210, people would ask "What is that!?" or "I've seen pictures of that in magazines, but I don't know what it does". Yet, the 7650 and 3650 are far more widespread. Walking through Swansea late at night, I don't see any SPV users texting their loved ones in a drunken stupour, or trying to call a taxi, but I do see plenty of 7650 and 3650 phones out there, being used by non-geeks. Ihave friends who use the 7650 and they don't even have a PC yet they do use the MMS, PIM, Camera and other built in fsoftware. My mother even has a 7650! Now that's impressive.

I'm not saying that the makers of Symbian powered smartphones can sit back, the battle goes on, but I do think that if the future depends on who reaches the masses, then the future must surely belong to Symbian - at least for the moment (though is it possible to talk about the future in terms of the moment we're in?).

Anyway, you may want to vote in the poll that is inn the above article, if the number of votes is anything to go by, moe than 90% of voters think that Microsoft is going to win - but I have noticed that you can vote more than once Which may account for Microsoft's high marks (now nobody go pointing the finger at jpzr - that's not fair! )
