Sony Ericsson to license Smartner Duality Always-on Mail®

Smartner, the European leader in mobile email and office solutions, today announced that they will provide Always-on Mail experience on Sony Ericsson mobile phones based on Symbian OS through Award-winning Smartner Duality Professional Edition. The first product to feature Smartner Duality is the P900 smartphone during second quarter of 2004.

In 2003, Smartner Duality was recognized with the Award for Best Corporate Wireless Application in 3GSM World Congress. Smartner Duality Always-on Mail extends access to Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes and Internet mailboxes to wireless devices. It automatically pushes new emails to mobile professionals without any user interaction, and provides them with complete control over their desktop functions while away from the office. Users can access their email and calendar in real-time, with all actions mirrored simultaneously on their desktop without compromising any aspect of corporate or personal security.

The unique technology powering Smartner Duality enables the solution to be deployed by the user in minutes without entering a single configuration at the device, making it extremely easy for anyone to enjoy the benefits of Always-on Mail. Smartner Duality Professional Edition is an ideal solution for individual subscribers, business professionals in companies of any size, and for mobile operators looking for a complete solution for these markets. The cooperation between Sony Ericsson and Smartner further strengthens both companies’ position as leaders in mobile enterprise solutions for business professionals and mobile operators alike.

"Sony Ericsson is delighted that the P900 now also supports Smartner’s e-mail solution as it is a compelling offering which will attract a wide group of users. The P900 supports the leading e-mail solutions, which makes it one of the most versatile and efficient communications tools on the market", said Per Aspermar, Vice President Phone Development Europe at Sony Ericsson

"We are focused on bringing the mobile professional, whether business or personal, the uncompromised security and user experience of Always-on Mail", said Paul Hedman, Chief Executive Officer, Smartner. "Together with Sony Ericsson we can effectively enable our end-users and operators with a turnkey solution for open standards-based mobile email."

"We are delighted that Smartner, as a member of the Symbian Platinum Program, is bringing their Duality mobile push e-mail technology to the Sony Ericsson line of Symbian OS-based phones and to the broader Symbian ecosystem;" said Simon Garth, GM of the Symbian office in Cambridge, UK and Head of Symbian Market Development. "The Duality technology removes the complexities of mobile data communications for the user, thereby making the mobile office feasible and accessible to everyone."

The P900 is a high-quality communications tool for voice calls, text and picture messaging and e-mail, as well as providing full PDA/organizer functions. In addition, it is a camera-phone capable of recording video and still images and also provides a good gaming experience on the 65K colour touch-screen. The wide range of applications available for download enables the P900 to do much more than making voice calls, thereby increasing its value for both consumers and operators. The P900 is based on Symbian OS and the established UIQ user interface.
