Press Release:
VISIARC TECHNOLOGY MAKES THOUSANDS OF CAD DRAWINGS ACCESSIBLE ON
SONY ERICSSONīS P800 FLAGSHIP MOBILE PHONE
VISIARC System, the only wireless drawing archive swiftly allows professionals
to access and view CAD drawings wherever they are, on a range of mobile phones
using wireless Internet.
Stockholm, March 4, 2003 - VISIARC AB (a private joint stock corporation)
today announced the availability of the VISIARC Wireless Viewer for accessing
and viewing technical design drawings (CAD) on Sony Ericssonīs P800 camera-equipped
mobile phone. On their mobile phone, business professionals can now navigate
VISIARCīs drawing archive server where literally thousands of drawings may reside.
Wirelessly they then can download and view a copy of the latest drawings of
their choice, to their mobile phone, wherever they are. Zooming, panning and
just through pressing a sync button the unique built-in drawing synchronization
technology allows users to ensure they have the latest information always at
hand. Unlike the vast majority of other CAD applications the VISIARC System
is not made by CAD engineers only for other CAD engineers. The system is designed
for everyone, with a focus on usability. It is targeting any business professional
that has a need to access to the latest approved design drawing detail to work
efficiently, while on the move.
"Sony Ericssonīs flagship P800 mobile phone is neither a phone, nor a PDA, but
rather a masterly marriage of both", says Peter Lindgren, VP Marketing at VISIARC,
"and we are excited to deliver lightning fast CAD viewing on it, where zooming
and panning is a breeze, even for `non-CAD literateī people. Over time, demystifying
CAD and making drawings generally accessible can really produce bottom-line
results for companies."
Access to the latest approved drawing is absolutely crucial for many industries
to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget. Wireless distribution
is not only cheaper and faster than traditional paper-bound CAD drawing distribution,
it also has environmentally positive effects such as reducing driving time and
paper consumption. Many times, not having a drawing or the latest revision in
the field, it is a matter of going in to the office and back again, bring it
the following day, or even have it express delivered to the site.
About VISIARC System 1
The VISIARC System 1 comprises two types of key components; client-side drawing
viewers and a server-side drawing archive, the 'Interaction Server'.
The VISIARC Wireless Viewer is the client that enables users to access and view
drawings on their wireless phone. The viewer has an intuitive user interface
not only to navigate and find the right drawing in the archive, but also to
zoom and pan when viewing downloaded drawings. The Wireless Viewer saves the
latest downloads locally to ensure that drawing details can be viewed where
there is no network coverage, such as in an underground elevator shaft. To guarantee
that the user has latest drawing and that no-one has published a later drawing
revision, there is a built-in function for wireless syncing, which is automatically
engaged every time a connection is established to the server. The Wireless Viewer
is today generally available for the Sony Ericsson P800 mobile phone, Nokia
Communicator 9210 and 9210i, as well as Nokia 7650 and 3650 imaging phones.
Additional versions are under development to be throughout this year. The WebViewer
is the other version of design drawing viewer, but is intended for ordinary
computers. The stationary WebViewer enables access and viewing of drawings on
any Internet connected computer with no other software installed than a regular
web browser. In the field and on the move the Wireless Viewer is used and in
the office the WebViewer is used.
The VISIARC Interaction Server constitutes the actual CAD design drawing archive
and includes also the user database containing all user permissions. To publish
and administrate the contents of the server there is an easy-to-use web browser
based client, the Server Manager, which enables fast and easy publishing of
drawings and latest revisions for both the wireless and stationary users. To
have all drawings stored in one centralized location, it importantly ensures
that all users have access to the very same and latest drawings.
The Interaction Server supports all industry leading design drawing formats
suitable for digital distribution; AutoCAD DWF, Microstation SVF and HP-GL
(generic so-called plot format).
