Full Press Release:
Nokia introduces innovative mobile enhancementsto enrich multimedia messaging
March 11, 2003
Making MMS more personal and expressive than ever before
Nokia announced today a new range of feature-rich and fun enhancements to mobile terminals to facilitate multimedia messaging (MMS), at home and at work. Taking advantage of key technologies such as Bluetooth, MMS and imaging, the Nokia Digital Pen, Nokia Image Viewer and the Nokia Add-on Lens will enhance consumers' MMS experience with compatible Nokia mobile phone models.
"These latest mobile enhancements show Nokia's strong commitment to offer consumers even richer and more enjoyable multimedia messaging opportunities. The innovations we see today enable consumers to bring multimedia message creation and usage to a new level, especially in a professional context" said Janne Jormalainen, Vice President, Mobile Enhancements Business Unit, Nokia Mobile Phones. "For example, the new Nokia Digital Pen allows you to write and draw your own text and images for a personalized, creative multimedia message. It is a perfect tool for professionals who value easy, efficient and creative tools for their daily routines."
Draw your own multimedia message with the stylish Nokia Digital Pen
The Nokia Digital Pen enables consumers to create, store and share personal and colourful messages. The pen is easy to use; users can draw a picture or write notes in their own handwriting on specially printed paper and transfer them to a compatible mobile phone using Bluetooth technology.* The image can be displayed on the phone and can be sent as an MMS to a compatible mobile phone or an email address.**
The Nokia Digital Pen can store up to 100 A5 pages in digital format. This can be transferred to a compatible PC by putting the pen in the Connectivity Stand for Digital Pen, which can be connected to a PC via the USB interface. The Nokia Digital Pen can also support the use of services developed by 3rd parties. The Nokia Digital Pen SU-1B is planned to be available in the third quarter of 2003.
View and share your MMS images through Nokia Image Viewer
With the lightweight portable Nokia Image Viewer, Nokia takes MMS usage beyond the mobile phone screen. Users can show and share images from their phones on a TV screen or video projector at home or in the office. Images are transferred wirelessly from a compatible mobile phone to the Nokia Image Viewer using Bluetooth technology.*** The connection between the Nokia Image Viewer and the TV or video projector is made with a retractable RCA cord. The pictures can be viewed either as single images or as a slideshow. The Nokia Image Viewer SU-2 is planned to be available in the second quarter of 2003.
Take it closer with Nokia Add-on Lens
To take sharp close-up images with the Nokia 3650, users can easily attach the Nokia Add-on Lens to the back of the phone. The Nokia Add-on Lens enables clearer close-up images to be taken at a distance of 5 to 10 centimetres. Changing the lens is hassle-free; simply rotate the lens wheel with one hand. The Nokia Add-on Lens CC-49 is planned to be available in the third quarter of 2003.
