Missing Sync for Symbian now in beta

Published by Rafe Blandford at 11:24 BST, June 19th 2008

Missing Sync, a sync tool for Mac OS X, is now available as a beta preview for S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3 phones. Missing Sync for Symbian can be used to synchronize / copy contacts (Apple Address Book), calendar entries (iCal), photos (iPhoto), videos (Quick Time) and music (iTunes) to and from the phone. The current version is a beta preview and as such should be used with caution.

The software also supports a number of other third party programs such as Microsoft Entourage (Outlook equivalent on Mac OS X) and Chronos SOHO Organizer.

Nokia does provide a number of tools for Mac users such as plug ins for iSync and Nokia Media Transfer. However Missing Sync provides an all round solution and has additional functionality. It will also be very welcome for UIQ 3 users (Sony Ericsson and Motorola) who currently have limited Mac connectivity options.

Missing Sync is currently available for the other major mobile platforms including Windows Mobile, Palm and Blackberry. The software supports UIQ 3 and S60 3rd Edition Symbian OS based phones.

Here is a screenshot from the Windows Mobile version of Missing Sync (the Symbian version looks very similar):

For any beta testers out there: does missing sync allow you to sync categories in the Address Book?

This one's a bit of a head-scratcher for me... Nokia already does an excellent job of playing well with Apple iSync. If they had the same video converter for S60 as they do for their tablets things would be perfect for me.

Of course, downloading vids to my handset via MobiTubia pretty much takes the problems of transcoding off the table!
