Published by Steve Litchfield at 10:17 UTC, October 25th 2007

Opera has launched a new Link service to keep your mobile and desktop Opera browsing in step, with synced bookmarks, speed dial sites and personal bar. It has also launched a new beta (3) of the upcoming Opera Mini 4, point your browser to mini.opera.com as usual. The Opera Link press release follows...

Opera Link: your stuff everywhere

Oslo, Norway and Mountain View, CA - October 25, 2007 - Opera, the only company that puts the Web on any device, today released Opera Link. Wherever you are, whatever Opera browser you use, or whichever device you use Opera on, you can instantly access your bookmarks, Speed Dial, and personal bar. Say goodbye to the tedious hassle of entering text in your mobile phone to visit your top sites and say hello to a new level of convenience from device to device. Try Opera Link for yourself at http://www.opera.com.

The first service to leverage the breadth of Opera's industry-leading product portfolio, Opera Link forms a key cornerstone of two beta products released today. Opera Link is supported in the high-performance Opera 9.5 beta and the newest beta of Opera Mini 4, the world's most popular mobile Web browser. There is also a Web interface for users of any browser at http://my.opera.com. The Opera Web browser for PC/Mac/Linux and Opera Mini are available completely free for anyone to use and enjoy.

"We refuse to believe people should compromise their experience when they access the Web from different devices," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. "With Opera Link, we give them a consistent experience uniquely suited to the way they want to use the Web. But as cool as we think Opera Link is now, we are already hard at work making it even more valuable to our users in the future. Opera Link means convergence without compromise."

Just downloaded it and my 1st thought was Nokia and Apple have got some catching up to do!
This is only a java mobile app and it's really really good.
Can't wait for a native version

What makes it even better is the integration with the new desktop Opera 9.5...bookmarks sync is great

I'm probably just being picky but as a non yahoo user I wish the start page didnt have two hard coded links to yahoo services.
The previous start page was perfect for my humble needs, now it's a bit more cluttered with stuff i don't want.
It's great to have the new features but a user choice to remove them would be nice.

picky about yahoo: Are you sure you got the new mini4beta3? They have cleaned up the frontend nicely. I have an extra click now for reaching wikipedia, but i like the new version a lot! Can manage nearly every setting. My guess is that you run mini v3.

Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 has a hard coded link to Yahoo in the bookmarks section.

The new version (Beta 3) doesn't have any hardcoded links.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that all my bookmarks from beta 2 were maintained through the upgrade to beta 3.

Honestly, if Opera Mini had the ability to download files I would never need to use the S60 browser. Opera has it beaten from every perspective. I just hope they are able to monetize their free services enough to carry on developing them.

Two hardcoded Yahoo links in this new beta, see below in the screens.

P.S I was too lazy to login before, thats why I posted as 'unregistered'.

You have the option as always to create your own search plugin...go to any search input and right click to get the option to "create search"

I've replaced the Yahoo search with Google.

As if their unlimited yummy fortune cookies weren't enough, they've kept to their word too! I spoke to a few of the guys (and gals) at their stand at Excel and I said it would be great if bookmarks/feeds could be shared between the different platforms. They said with a smile to look out for an update in about a week's time and low and behold... Opera Link!

Now if only they could sort out Nintendo DS and Wii support for Link (but I believe that's ultimately Nintendo's decision).

I've discovered that what were previously thought of as hard coded bookmarks are actually "Speed Dial" bookmarks that can be deleted or changed on another screen past the regular bookmarks management dialogue

Brilliant!! I'll point out that you can use Opera Link on the pc without having Opera as your PC Browser, which is nice. Also that it's now so much easier to add a bookmark as you can do it all on the PC then sync up on your phone when you're done.

Loving it. Seriously. :D :D
