The Nokia N93 and N93i - not a clear cut choice!

Published by at

Now that I've been able to test a production Nokia N93i, along with the continuous focus video I reported on last week, I thought it appropriate to both update the AllAboutSymbian review and also summarise the relative advantages of each device. Read on for text and video.

The N93i is certainly not a head and shoulders upgrade over the N93. Lifted from the review, here's my summary table:

Nokia N93 Nokia N93i

Longer battery life
Clearer sound on video recordings
Better stereo separation on video recordings
More legible and tactile numeric keypad
Much clearer display in sunlight

Slimmer, sleeker, shorter
Better on-board optical noise reduction on still images
Faster auto-focus
Option of continuous focus in video recordings
16 million colour display
Better Pop port and card covers
Better side joystick

The central test, for me, was how the two device compare at shooting video. I set up my tripod and filmed the same scene (of me video blogging) on each device, rendering the clips down to the standard 320 by 240 resolution used on most web pages. Here's the result: n93n93i.mp4, 8.6MB - right click it to save and watch etc. Comments welcome!

And here's the link to the updated review itself, now with many small text changes from my initial review of the N93i pre-production hardware.
