Self-signed 3rd Edition apps with almost no code?

Published by Steve Litchfield at 9:14 BST, August 31st 2006

News from Somusar that their application-generator can now produce self-signed programs for S60 3rd Edition. It's an almost code-free way to get text, sounds and graphics into a working smartphone application. Press release follows.

The software factory described in

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Script_to_App_the_Somusar_way.php

is now able to produce self-signed freeware apps for S60 3rd Edition.

Three mobile snacks are available as of today on Handango:

Venice 18th Century

Dogs

Sherlock Holmes - The Devil's Foot

It's rather interesting to note that Venice and Holmes for 3rd Ed. have been downloaded in one day more than Venice and Holmes for S60 1.x/2.x have been in roughly one month, according to internal data from developer.handango.com. Downloads of Dogs 3rd Ed. are at about 2/3 of Dogs 1.x/2.x downloads.

It seems that 'S60 thirders' are more hungry for content than 'S60 oldies'. Note by the way that Venice 3rd is a 7.7 MB download and requires 13.5 MB when installed -- but that doesn't seem to scare downloaders!
