The only problem I see for higher cost games (and I suppose mobile gaming in general) is a distribution problem. The diffiulty of getting games onto devices unless they are on carriers decks seems to be a sticking issue (as for any add on software). While I do think gamers may be willing to jump through more hoops than a lot of users I do think there's a user experience issue here for the mass market (though maybe that's less of an issue if you target a core gamer niche?) - downloading a SIS file, installing in from a PC is not ideal. Especially compared to the buy a disk / cartidge and stick it in the mobile gaming device / console.
