The allTunes mobile client, which allows access to the allTunes music service (a service similar to iTunes), has been updated. The new version allows access to full song previews, account log in, and full track music download. The allTunes client is available for S60 1st, 2nd and 3rd Edition and UIQ 2.x phones.

With the new release allTunes adds support for S60 3rd Edition devices such as the music focused Nokia N91 and Nokia 3250. The Nokia N80, N70 and Nokia Eseries devices (E60, E61, and E70) are also supported. 

allTunes is a Russian based music service site which is best know for its sister sevice allofmp3.com and its low pricing ($2 per album or less). Various music industry bodies in the US and Europe have questioned its leaglity, but the company claims it is fully legal under Russian copyright law.

The allTunes mobile client includes an offline copy of the catalogue which means song searches can be performed offline. The catalogue can be updated via a over the air connection (3G / GPRS / WiFi). The catlog can be accessed either through a search or simple browsing. Lists of new releases and popular albums are available from the main menu screen. Individual tracks or albums can be previewed, ordered or marked as favourites. Previews take between 3 and 15 seconds to load (depending on the speed of the connection). Favourites are stored in their own top level folder which allows you to quickly go back to previously selected music either for a preview or to order.

The ordering process is a simple process and includes the ability to choose which bit rate the MP3 should be encoded at (192, 128, 96, 64 kbps). Orders are added to the download folder (also accessible from the main menu). Orders can be downloaded the next time the PC Client version of allTunes is active (and logged in) thus allow the mobile to operator purely as a purchase facillitator. Alternatively tracks can be downloaded within the mobile client itself and there is support for the pausing and resuming of downloads. Tracks downloaded on the mobile will not be downloaded on the PC, although they can be copied across to the PC from the mobile using Nokia's PC Suite.
