SPB TV thankfully goes its own way

With the news that mobile (and especially Symbian) stalwarts SPB Software has been bought up by Yandex, a Russian search company, the future of star products such as the free SPB TV was in serious doubt. Happily, it seems that this application has been spun off into a separate, independent enterprise, under the company name MobiWorld Media. This should ensure SPB TV's continued existence for all mobile platforms. More below.

SPB TV 2.0

From the MobiWorld Media press release:

"We welcome the news of the Yandex's acquisition of SPB Software, which should benefit both companies." said Kirill Filippov, CEO of MobiWorld Media. "MobiWorld Media has its own strategy to develop SPB TV solution, and as a fully independent company will not be affected by this acquisition."

With the usability and functionality of the SPB TV service remaining the core of the MobiWorld Media’s efforts, the company continues to improve the technology platform, enabling seamless IP video processing and delivery. Today SPB TV’s powerful architecture allows to deliver hundreds of live and video on demand channels from a single platform and a single headend to the thousands of subscribers that are using multiscreen devices.
