Nokia N8 Pink
The Nokia N8 pink introduces a new colour variant to the N8 range (joining blue, black, silver, orange and green).
I saw the pink N8 in person for the first time recently. It's a very striking shade of pink, with a strong, almost luminescent, hue. It is a strong contrast from the rose pink, which is typically used on most pink phones. The photos below give a good impression of the colour, but don't really do it justice!
Pink phones are sometimes seen as a weak marketing tool to appeal to women, but perhaps that is not as true as you might think. Leila Makki, of Telecom TV, tweeted yesterday, during a visit to Nokia HQ in Finland, that she had been told that Nokia research indicates that men like pink phones better than women.
Nokia commissioned a promotional video for the Nokia N8 Pink, which has a dancing barbie doll as the star and uses the Sugarbabes' Freedom song as the soundtrack. There's also a making of video, which details the amount of effort that went into making the video.
The video has evoked mixed reactions, but with more than 1.3 million views on YouTube, compared to 100,00 for the product video, there's no doubting it has been one of Nokia's more effective viral / video efforts.
Nokia Elle contest
The Nokia Elle contest is looking for the next fashion correspondent / blogger. Six winners will be invited to report from New York Fashion week and the ultimate winner will have his or her work featured in Elle magazine. We have not doubt that they will also be equipped with the Nokia N8 Pink.
For the first round you need to upload a 'stylish photo' to this Facebook page and submit the link to you fashion related social media stream (tumblr, Twitter, blog etc.).
The key dates from the competition are:
- 1-21 June: Open Call – Stylish photo
- 24 June – 4 July: 500 entrants from the open call are selected to write 250 words on why they should be a “Nokia Style Correspondent”
- 8 July – 10 August: 50 entrants from the 500 are selected to create a “style portfolio” and showcase their skills as a fashion blogger
- 8-15 September: 8 finalists from the 50 cover New York Fashion week and compete for the chance to become “Nokia’s Style Correspondent” and be profiled in the pages of ELLE
- January 2012: One grand prize winner is profiled in the pages of ELLE magazine
Note that this means, if you want to be involved, you must enter the competition by next Friday.
