Nokia's learning widget "Bots" updated for Symbian^3 devices

Published by at

Nokia’s Beta Labs have updated their “bots” to be compatible with the full range of Symbian^3 devices, alongside some bug fixes and changes to the existing version for the N97, N97 mini and C6-00. The Bots, which are widgets that sit on your homescreen, will firstly record your behaviour, and then present options which should be suitable for you at that moment in time – the Contacts bot will now show you your four most used contacts, not just on overall usage, but on how often you contact people from a certain location.

As well as two separate Bot widgets (for Contacts, and Shortcuts to applications), three other bots are provided that live in the main widget:

Profile Bot
Suggests profiles for you to change to, given the time of day and location, or it can handle the process automatically.

Alarm Bot
By watching your activity, Alarm Bot can work out when your profile needs to be silent (at night) and when the best time for an alarm call should be. This also means you can be sure your phone doesn’t stay on silent in the morning.

Battery Bot
Makes sure that at night time, your phone either (a) has enough battery charge to make it through to the morning or (b) suggests you plug your phone into the charger.

There’s more on the update here, and the home of the Nokia Bots is at the Beta Labs website. And just to be complete, here’s Rafe's piece on the bots, and a short video on the Bots from their launch earlier in the year.
