First mobile virus for Series 60 phones

icon
Your N-Gage isn't safe anymore, and neither are any nother Series 60 phones you own. Why is this? A mobile worm. Symb/Cabir-A is a worm written specifically for Nokia Series 60 mobile phones running the Symbian operating system. The worm spreads as a .sis package, named as Caribe.sis. Inside the file are three other files, caribe.app, flo.mdl and caribe.rsc. However there is little danger given the multiple user prompts required to install this virus.

icon
Nokia is recruiting N-Gagers to participate in a focus study for a brand new online game. While neither the game title or the developer of the game is yet known, this seems like a big oppurtunity to get involved in the N-Gage community. N-Gagers in San Francisco can participate in testing a new massively multiplayer online game for the N-Gage on Tuesday, June 22nd, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Aside from the chance to play-test a game no one else has yet played, participants will also get cash prizes! San Francisco N-Gagers can email jcrompt@aol.com to sign up. Wave the 7700 goodbye

icon
The Nokia 7700 - a pioneer for its time, the first of its kind, the live child of a N-Gage and a P900 as some call it will not see the light of day. It was to be powered by Symbian OS and Series 90 UI and should've paved the road for a new class of "Mediacentric" Nokia devices. With its landscape oriented 640x320 touch-sensitive screen and EDGE support it should have made high quality streaming video and the concept of Visual Radio a reality, instead it will be a pilot/demo tool to network operators and media/content providers. The end of the 7700 is not the end for Series 90. Nokia are planning to launch a Series 90 based device sometime in 2005. Full story source - InfoSync World

Nokia Favour In-House Browser over Opera

icon
A methodology of choosing the best bits from the 'competition,' rolling it into your own mobile browser seems to be evident from Finland. Nokia have decided to drop Opera from their Series 60 devices (remember it shipped with the 6600) and use their own in house Browser with XHTML, HTML, Javascript and page optimisation. Opera (and to a certain extent Netfront) have a huge lead in the pn-phone Browser market, so this move should be an interesting battle between Norway and Finland (CBR Reports).
