iSilo, the cross platform document reader, has had its Series 60 version updated. Compressed text, with hyperlinks and images, all available from your phone. Well worth looking at if you're still deciding on a doc reader for your phone.
It's easy to spot a vested interest (I write the Symbian content for it) but anyone interested in some quality PDA/smartphone reading in paper form might like to note that issue 11 of Palmtop User magazine is out this week.
A rumour has come our way that Nokia is doing a version of the popular pen & paper sci-fi strategy game Warhammer 40,000 for N-Gage. The rumour also claims that it will be announced at one of the Gencon gaming conventions in August and November. Just to repeat, this is only a rumour, it might not be accurate, but we thought it was worth passing on to you.
For those following my 'Grid' of current day mobile computing solutions, I've added the Treo 650 and O2 XDA IIs, bringing things more up to date. The Nokia 9500 and 9300 still win by a country mile though 8-)
The Register report that Motorola is pushing carriers to carry its Push To Talk software on their Symbian OS handsets. Don't hold your breath though....
A new version of the Sendo X firmware update has been released, fixing GPRS problems, among others. Each language distribution is unlocked to all handsets. See SendoSmartphones.com for details.
Launched yesterday, DataViz RoadSync for UIQ gives mobile users full access to Microisoft Exchange's ActiveSync. It provides users with access to corporate Outlook e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts information.
Ian Ratcliffe helps out puzzle fans the world over with MobliSuDoKu for UIQ devices. Featuring 50 built in puzzles, and a SuDoKu Solver algorythm for problems found on the internet, it's a good first SuDoKu application for the platform. Let's hope he continues to develop it (and if you want to know more about SuDoKu, head over to Wikipedia).
After a huge amount of good feedback from the Communicator Version, Al Richey of RMR Software has released the OPL Based RMRData for UIQ devices. RMRData provides a "secure" storage area for personal information and data, with full export facilities to your PC or Mac in standard file formats.
Any Symbian fans who want to play with the machine that started the whole EPOC/Symbian OS multi-tasking thing might like to see a new article detailing How to run a virtual Psion Series 3a under Windows XP. Aside from bringing back a few memories, this may also be useful in opening up old Psion files.
Bitween come up with one of those applications that is great for about 5% of people, and everyone else goes 'why?' It's a bluetooth keyboard driver for the Nokia 9500 or 9300, so you can use an external bluetooth powered keybaord in place of the (admittedly smaller) built in keys. And rtather like London buses these things tend to come in twos with Yellow Computing also announcing a similar product.
Between seven and nine letters, and you're against the clock to make as many words as possible in Jumble for UIQ. Built in dictionaries, a nice colour scheme and easy to use interface. It doesn't come much better than this for word play.
