According to this Register report Nokia will release a version the Pearl scripting language for Series 60 devices. Perl allows for easy development of simple applications normally web based. Also of interest was that Nokia seem to be taking more notice of Open Source basic like language OPL and our own Ewan Spence gets a good mention for it. It even hints that Nokia may be put some resources into OPL's development.

Metrowerks have announced the availability of the Siemens SX1 SDK. The SDK contains a commercial release SX1 as well as everything you need to develop for it. The cost is $1,150, but only limited quantities are available.
The Helix DNA Player Preview Release 1.2 is now available. This is the result of the Open Source Helix program (RealPlayer). The Helix player is effectively a more advanced Real Player. Supported media includes RealAudio G2, 7, 8, RealVideo G2, 7, 8, 9, H.263, AMR-NB, AMR-WB and MP3. The advanced profile version also supports 3GPP SMIL and 3GPP Timed Text.

Nokia have released a theme creator for the Nokia 6600 (Series 60 Developer PLatform 2.0). The free Java program is available via Forum Nokia. The program allows you to customise the idle screen wallpaper, application shell icons, colors, screen savers, signal and battery strength graphics, volume and slider graphics, scrolling indicators and the analog and digital clocks.
