Steve and Rafe have been taking advantage of a little early British spring semi-sunshine to capture some photos and videos with the N95. Macro mode is impressive and landscape shots are looking fine too. There's also an example of a multi-scene video shot, edited and uploaded all from the N95 (no PC required). And read on to win a special prize in our caption competition!
Fresh up over on the official Nseries Vox blog is what seems to be a TV ad for the thin clamshell N76. Minimalist, but I like it - no gimmicks. Comments?
Of course, Nokia didn't just send N95s to AllAboutSymbian - you'll also be interested in the opinions of Darla (unboxing her PINK version!) and James (great photos - I am not worthy...) What are AAS up to with our units? Rafe's working on a detailed assessment of its music capabilities and I've been clocking up miles with its GPS and taking lots of test video. Watch this space.
Although AAS doesn't really go in for outright rumours but, news of concept devices and patents is always interesting. In this case, AAS collaborator Darla has researched a story, with links, about a possible Nokia N99 (sic). And you thought the N95 was highly-specified. The N99 is clearly fake but the patent is not and shows possible future directions for the Nseries of Eseries families.
The convergence flagship that is the Nokia N95 is arriving.... Support pages for it went up today and two production N95 smartphones are at this moment crawling across the UK to Rafe and myself. Look out for an unboxing tomorrow and initial impressions, followed by multimedia, usability and navigation tests in the next few weeks. Update: there's also now an official Nokia press release.
Smartphones Show 27 is now live, with video reviews of the Nokia E61i and E65, plus a feature on what's new in Windows Mobile 6.0 and S60 3rd Edition Feature Packs 1 and 2.
Rafe Blandford gives his hands-on preview of the Nokia N77 smartphone, launched at 3GSM 2007, the first mainstream device with built-in DVB-H mobile TV support. He also goes into detail about DVB-H technology and his thoughts on the way the mobile TV market will pan out.
In Smartphones Show 26, I pitch the Nokia N73 against the Qtek 8500, a.k.a. the HTC STRTrK. Both are of similar age, price, size and are aimed at similar buyers. But which is the better 'smartphone for everyman'? If you want to grab the show on your smartphone, iPod or PSP, here's the RSS feed to copy and paste.
Announced around six months ago, the Nokia N73 Music Edition is finally becoming available. What's new for this revamp of the popular high street best seller and is the whole Music Edition thing worthwhile? Read my review of the N73 Music Edition to find out.
Hmmm..... methinks the HTC P5500 is looking awfully familiar - the screen size, the slider, the built-in GPS, the 3 megapixel stills camera, the Wi-Fi, etc. I doubt there are copyright issues at stake here, but you know what they say about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery... Nokia must be doing something right with the N95! I can't wait to review the two devices head to head in the summer.
Danish website Mobilsiden.dk has a video interview (in English) with the designers of the Nokia 5500, Rachel Sleight and Marja-Leena Nurmela. Product designers rarely explain their decisions in public, and it's interesting to hear the philosophies behind the 5500's design and materials. The interview is split into short chunks for some reason, but they're all on the same page one below the other.
