N99? Probably not

Published by Steve Litchfield at 11:46 GMT, March 23rd 2007

Although AAS doesn't really go in for outright rumours but, news of concept devices and patents is always interesting. In this case, AAS collaborator Darla has researched a story, with links, about a possible Nokia N99 (sic). And you thought the N95 was highly-specified. The N99 is clearly fake but the patent is not and shows possible future directions for the Nseries of Eseries families.

Right now, seems fake, and a Photoshop job. But one of this days, all specifications are well possible.

Yes the N99 is a fake, but who knows what is coming next.

The patent has an interesting take on the transformer form factor.

Specifications of future models can seem impossible, but things change so quickly in this business that it's very difficult to sort the plausible from the implausible.

Just a couple of years ago the N91's specs seemed absolutely over the top and some people (myself included) thought they'd never get something like that in the shops, it seemed just too full of expensive features. Nowadays, the N91 actually seems UNDERspecified, with a fairly small screen and a HDD capacity that's matched by flash memory cards.
