Nokia Follow Apple's Lead in Developing Open Source Web Browser for Series 60

Nokia has announced that it using open source software in developing a new mobile browser for Series 60. Nokia has been cooperating with Apple to use it's WebCore and JavaScriptCore for the Series 60 platform (Apple uses these in its popular Safari Internet browser, and the components are based on KDE's KHTML and KJS). The new browser will be available to Series 60 liscensees in the first half of 2006 and should make it's way on to phones sometime after that.

Patent Sillyness in Finland

I invented answering a call on a hands-free by pressing a button, says Jari Lahtinen (reports Engadget). Which means I'm going to sue Nokia for doing something so obvious, only I would register it with the Finnish patent office... Sometimes I despair of the human race.

Carphone Warehouse Launch MMC Games Card

UK Retailer, The Carphone Warehouse, has partnered with Telcogames to launch an MMC collection of Symbian (Series 60) games to sell in-store. The tiles (Sky-Force, Yukkiko, and Marble Revolution) may be well known to AAS readers, but to the wider public this could be the foirst time they see a third party game on their phone.

BenQ to buy Siemens Mobile.

BenQ has announced that it is to take over Siemens mobile. This includes Siemens 8.4% stake in Symbian subject to approval. The takeover is due to be completed by the end of September.
