Last time around I told everybody how I had a wonderful time with episodes 1 & 2 of the TetraEdge Games, The Adventure Company release Atlantis Redux. This time I took episode 3 out for a spin and I must say that it was, like the first releases, a fun expenditure of time.
This time around the plot thickens a bit and the bald Peruvian (sorry, don't know his name yet) confronts us directly. The skull seen first at the beginning of episode 1 comes back into the picture and players in the role of the heroine of the story take a little trip through time (I think, anyway. This time the story was not as clear to me). An awful lot for one episode, right? Indeed it feels it looking back but during play it all seemed to happen very quickly. Whether this is because I was having fun or it was just a short game is hard to say. I tend to think it was because of the fun involved even though these episodes tend to be a little short.
Controls were identical to the first games so I won't go into them here except to say that they are still simple and elegant on any device you could be using whether two-handed and game oriented like the N-Gage line or traditionally one-handed like most S60 devices. The only new element to control this time out was that in one of the mini-games you actually had to work on timing a spear throw. It's not difficult or frustrating, but it was new and unexpected in what has otherwise been a game of mental challenges and represented a fun little departure from the expected.
All in all Episode 3 has followed well in the footsteps of 1 & 2 with all the benefits of them and only those downsides typical of the genre. As with the first releases I'd say their value depends very much on the type of game you're in the mood for. If story driven graphic adventures are your thing or are fun for you from time to time then this is definitely worth a look as it follows up to episodes 1 & 2 nicely, but if you're an FPS junkie who loves the twitchy action stuff perhaps this isn't quite your cup of tea. This time out I'm handing a slightly lower 70% because the story didn't seem as strong, but make no mistake, this is everything that players of 1 & 2 would expect and is worthy their time.
