Review: Nokia 808 PureView: part 2d (Video capture, Rich Recording)

icon

In part 1 of my Nokia 808 PureView review, I looked at its hardware and capabilities as a smartphone, in part 2a, I showed how PureView works, in part 2b, I tested the 808 head to head with its predecessors, and in part 2c, I looked at the massively reworked Camera interface. In this, review part 2d, I look at the 808's video capture capabilities, including the Rich Recording system for high quality audio capture. Still to come in the remaining parts of my seven part 20,000 word review are apps, multimedia, performance and much more.

Review: Watermark Photo

icon

Yes, it's another in Harald Meyer's long line of photo utilities, but I couldn't resist giving this one the full review treatment. Even if you're not a self-styled journalist like me, most of us, at some point or other, have taken a photo of something special and wanted to upload it for others to enjoy, yet still make it clear to everyone where the image came from. In other words, added a watermark. It's not easy to do on the desktop, yet with this, Watermark Photo, it's now trivial to do on your phone itself. And, in most cases, upload the image to the social network or photo archive of your choice, all in the one app.

Review: Nokia 808 PureView: part 2a (camera: stills and video overview)

icon

In part 1 of my Nokia 808 PureView review, I looked at its hardware and physical capabilities as a smartphone. But I stopped short of going into depth on the 808's main Unique Selling Point, the monster camera, since this deserves its own review parts. Four of them, in fact, starting in this, part 2a, with a summary of how PureView works, samples of its output and comments on the quality produced. Future 808 camera parts will cover comparisons with other competing smartphones, the massively reworked Camera interface and testing the video capture/Rich Recording capabilities.

Review: Davi

icon

Symbian veterans will recall that support for WebDAV was once built into File Manager. That support was removed in the Belle update, leaving you high and dry if you relied on that protocol. That’s where Davi for Nokia Belle steps in, providing a solid WebDAV client for remotely accessing files on your Symbian device. Whether you're using a NAS box, or third party services like Otixo, this is something just for you. Actually, this review should be called "Davi, featuring Otixo".
