As the term Web 2.0 entered the marketing lexicon, organisations scrambled for their slice of the ‘user-generated content’ pie. Most corporate entities, at least within the mobile phone world, suddenly created or wanted a Wiki. Symbian, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Windows Mobile all have one, and, in some cases two with at least one being dedicated to the developers that work with these organisations.
To encourage the dedication of a few and to create a core of volunteers, several companies are offering a range of prizes to those who add to their wikis over the next few weeks. The very latest phones are being given away in exchange for wiki contributions. Right now, if you have development expertise that you’re willing to share, you can win Nokia E90s, Sony Ericsson P1is and Nokia N95s.
Sony Ericsson Developer World wiki and Symbian Developer Network wiki are both holding competitions, with Sony Ericsson giving out one brand new top-of-the-range Sony Ericsson P1i to one lucky contributor. Nokia also hold regular competitions including a 'contributor of the month' award who wins their choice of S60 3rd Edition device. Symbian is giving out one 'in-a-class-of-its-own' Nokia E90 communicator, one Nokia N95 ‘multimedia factory’, two 'UIQ-tastic' Sony Ericsson P1is, and a 'never get lost' Nokia 6110 Navigator. All these could be yours or at least one of them could, if you only contribute to the wikis in any of the competitions. Get busy!
