Swype beta for Symbian^1 updated

Published by at

An update for Swype for Symbian^1 devices has been released by Nokia Beta Labs. The update improves overall performance; the core Swype functionality has been configured to make the UI and output more responsive (tapping and word prediction changes, improved haptic feedback and improved landscape mode). A number of UI fixes mean there are fewer on screen artifacts, notably the word choice window has been reword. The update also adds support for downloadable dictionaries and fixes a number of bugs.

A full list of the bug fixes in the new version (v.12936) is available from Nokia Beta Labs

The new version brings Swype for Symbian^1 much closer to being release ready. Indeed, aside from the beta label, I would have no hesitation in recommending this version of Swype to any user looking for an alternative (and potentially better) text input method for their device. It is most effective on the touch only devices (5800, 5230, X6) and works best on a capacitive screen (X6).

Swype for Symbian^1 supports the Nokia 5800, Nokia 5230, Nokia X6, Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini and Nokia C6-00. It supports UK English, US English, Canadian French, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. Additional languages and devices will be supported in due course.

The updated for Symbian^1 devices version can be downloaded from Nokia Beta Labs.

More information on Swype for Symbian^1 is available in our original story.

A Symbian^3 version of Swype is available for the Nokia C7, via the Ovi Store. N8 support is expected to follow shortly.
